Painting a newly finished attic - What is wall and what is ceiling?
Comments (4)Your second photo brings me right to the stairwell scene in Hitchcock's "Vertigo," although I realize I'm looking up, not down. It's really rather wonderful. I'm just wondering, looking to the upper left in particular, if it's been recently checked out by a structural engineer. As for paint, I'll be interested to see what others say. For me, who doesn't do a lot of white, I think I actually would stay with a white here. A muddy green might be nice as well, but you'd need to incorporate a bit of lighting -- perhaps uplighting along the beams unseen from below, with something amazing hanging from that cool, crazy peak you have. Comments (2)I find the mustard very jarring and overpowering. Was that your choice or the designer's? Quite honestly, they look like colors that were there when you moved in and can't wait to cover up. Having a blue accent wall could work, but multiple colors and accent walls takes away any sense of sophistication and flow....See MoreHow does this work? Making wall collages look good.
Comments (20)work out the wall space you want to cover, measure this on the floor. then start laying out our design within the space on the floor to create your design. There has to be lines running through the collage so there is a method to the madness- we don't want a messy looking arrangement, there must be a flow. You can line up the matts with outside edge of other frames etc. Layout all of your pics on the floor and mix up the frame styles and sizes amongst your layout. Take photos of your layout and then start hanging. My tip is don't start hanging until you have your plan 100% !!! lots of neck stretches too! i recently put together this collage and need a neck massage afterwards ;-)...See MoreHow to choose wall colours
Comments (2)Hi Yuxian! Think about what style you're going for as you would want your paint colours to complement the furnishings to come. Also, what mood do you want to create for your whole house/each room? For instance, yellows are uplifting and cheery while greens are usually restful. Browse online for 'paint colour ideas' and save a collection of photos that appeal to you. You're likely to find great decor ideas at the same time! With that particular part of the house pictured above though, my advice is to make the most of the precious daylight coming through that window (there's just never enough sunlight in my flat! RIP, all our plants that once lived) and have this room painted in lighter hues. It's uplifting stepping in to a bright and airy home. Ultimately, follow your heart and if you love a colour, choose it!...See MoreSusanne R
