Hello, first congratulations on you lovely project. Could I ask you what type of wood was used for the ceiling?

Hi - thanks for the praise, the ceiling is Western Red Cedar. A lovely timber and makes the room smell so nice.

I'd paint it all (walls and trim) the same scrubbable, matte color. Probably a soft grey. One that compliments the cabinetry as well as the flooring. Best of luck, please post photos when complete!

That could work if the room is large enough and if you have three gathering areas, one under each fixture. . I would do a furniture layout first......... Another option is to have a ceiling fan at one end over the seating area and a chandelier at the other end over a dining area.

To do it right, the finish will need to be removed, the color changed, and then the finish put on. Cost wise, I suspect you would be better off replacing all the wood rather than refinishing all the wood. Varnish is a painted on finish that will scrape off if a door is kicked or where wood is touched a lot. I suggest you embrace the home, it's really beautiful.
