Help!! I have a large family.

At dinner time there would be at least 8 to 10 people on weekends. With girlfriends , it would be about 14. Am thinking of 2 extendable tables as a solution. . Am moving in to my new house in 6 months . Dining room is 7m by 4.5 meters without any furniture in yet .please help!

That is a large room. You could go for a dining room table that measures 2mx2m which would hold 12 people with ease. For larger dinners you could add a table that measures 1mx2m (to a total table of 3mx4m. This would give you adequate space around the table for chairs.

agreed, there are plenty of space to house a large family gathering, even go with custom dining table if needed.

Talk to a professional. I think there are building codes for steps. A 4" step might be too short and cause people to lose balance & trip. Can you install a longer window? A longer window with seats to enjoy the view? Binoculars on a tripod to encourage viewing or stargazing with comfy chairs, too?

You already have your accent colour as your sofa pillows (log roll pillows). I would take one of them shopping with me to get a rug that has that colour in it. It doesn't need to be a lot of that colour (I love the idea of burgandy rug here...but it might be too much with your monotone scheme). You can find a large rug that incorporates that red/raspberry in it so that you have a colour that is now your accent.

I would get rid of that pendant. Here's one link to industrial pendant lights http://www.houzz.com/industrial-pendants Pick a light that you like and show it to your landlord. I bet she/he will say yes to your suggestion since pendant lights can easily be changed. In fact, if there's already a really secure junction box there already i bet they may even go with a ceiling fan light combo if that's what you really want

I have a table by Lyndon Furniture, handmade in Lyndonville, VT which is an oval 48" x 72" regulatly, but with two 18" leaves it extends to 108". At six feet, w/o leaves, it seats six comfortably. At 7 1/2 feet, it seats 8 comfortably, and at 9 feet it can seat 12-14, depending on the size of the chairs. Since it is an oval, we have had 14 people sitting at on holidays. With servings dishes on a side table, it is more than adequate for that many people.

The extending mechanism is all gears, so it makes opening and closing the table a snap!

If you are going with only one table instead of two, make sure that the table has 2 bases so that you have all the support it needs when your table is fully extended.
