bathroom vanities cost

why can I only find vanities (36") for either $1,000 (online) or $5,000+ (showrooms)? is there really nothing in between these 2 price points?

Good Heavens! A CUSTOM vanity (to the inch and feature) at that 36 inch size can be had in virtually every area of the country for less than 5 k by at least three grand !! Look at custom cabinetry makers in your area. Provide your own solid surface top , faucet etc

3-form is great, you can also visit www.decorativefilm.com for lots of great options to apply to any standard glass. The biggest advantage of film on glass vs. frosted glass is the ability to change it down the road for a fraction of the cost of replacing the glass.

I have used Lumicor or 3Form resin panels for this application many times. The resin panels are translucent, letting light in but are still private. They are two panels with flat materials between them; like grass, rice paper, fabrics, metals, strings, bamboo, wood veneers, it is endless. Check both companies websites for different options of panels. Here are some examples. Another idea could be textured glass, like rain or water glass.

I take it this isn't your bathroom. The glass could be handmade lead light which means bespoke by someone who makes lead light windows or it could be a transfer applied to a plain glass window. Check on ebay or online sticker/transfer stores for similar. I've never seen a piece like that in Australia so I'm thinking this might be an American antique. It's not normal to put an expensive antique piece in a bathroom and if you did it would be best in a bathroom that only has minimal use. And you would want to have a lot of good exhaust extraction to get rid of moisture. If you picked up one of those repro Indonesian mahogany pieces you would be spending a lot less money and might regard the piece as expendable. You can buy wood hardening sprays that resist moisture from the hardware store and spray the carcass (all the unstained pieces inside) with this stuff to resist moisture. You'd still need a good exhaust system however and keep the room well aired.

If privacy is the issue, get the sliders tinted to about 70%. You'll still get most of the natural light but will have privacy. Now, keep in mind this only works during the day. At night you are exposed. To address this, you may wish to do a floor to ceiling white sheer/linen curtains. The number of folds in the curtain will dictate the amount of visible silhouette at night.
