Need help for staircase

I have to build a staircase to join 2 floors and even though I have limited space, I decided not to go for the circular style since I feel it is not very practical - style is like the one in the reference photo). However, the ceiling of the ground floor is high so I would need to add more steps (which is not ideal because it will be eating space from my living). Are there any hacks which can help me not increase the staircase space? Perhaps adding one large step before the staircase starts? Help!

A stair with a winder will help the stair travel higher, quicker over a shorter amount of space. Photos attached from google give you an idea. The half landing doesn't actually gain any height whereas with a winder you're climbing stairs in the same space

Yes! Agreed, that makes a lot of sense. I wonder if I could keep the same style whilst adding the winder (perhaps in a different style, just for that bit). Thanks so much

I've done a few similar units and created an island. The wc area has too many utilities (waste pipes etc) to be fully removed, plus living in a Maisonette myself, I find it practical to keep a powder room downstairs. You could push the wall between the front door (if you are able to purchase the access area, you can move the front door out as well for even more foyer space). In its place could be full height cabinets as well as your fridge. At the back wall you could plan your basin and hob on the island (or the other way around). My preference is to place a glass wall and door to the yard, so you have the washing machine away from the kitchen and another layer between the kitchen and the powder room. The chute is contained then as well, which works pretty ok. Your laundry will be out of sight if the glass is frosted, but still provides plenty of light. Just wondering if some of the guests at the dining table might potentially be facing the shoe rack? Hi 4evazx, I believe that you had given your designer a good and clear brief of your wants and needs and discussed all details with your designer. Your designer has done a great job as i can see from the floor plan and lighting layout. Trust your instinct and have faith in your designer. The only thing i would recommend is that you get your 12w downlight at 4000k. This is a natural daylight glow and is great in apartments. Do post pictures of your apartment when its done. Enjoy the process.

If space is limited then a straight stair is easier to put something under thereby getting the most out of ever square meter.
You can also build furniture and storage under a stair that turns

Like Hepsom homes said, the six tread winder allows you to put six steps where the half landing only has one, this greatly reduces the over length of the bottom and top staircase and most winders can fit in spaces as little as 1800x1800 mm (depending on the floor to floor height and therefore the number of risers) They are far more comfortable to use than spirals which have very strict building control rules

I wouldn't be able to put a straight staircase because the room on top is very small so I would lose space for the opening of the staircase on the top floor. I can't start the staircase like the 2nd photo because there is a door opening on the side of it and so it would block the entrance.

I will definitely suggest the six tread winder then to save some space, thanks so much :)

Here's some more examples, the first picture is a landing but can be made as a winder, the second image is a winder with a coat store below the second section of stair
