We are building a new home and we are so confused by window brands. They all get awful reviews. How do I find out which window is the best for us. We are building a moderately priced contemporary and do not want wood windows. Please help!

Some of the leading brands are Pella and Anderson. However, we've use a local contractor/business to install new windows that are neither. Our windows are made by small companies and we are very happy with the brands the installer recommends and stands by. Have to say that the Pella windows cost twice as much. Also, we installed vinyl to replace wood. They will last another lifetime.

I think the first step is to talk to a qualified rep about the benefits of wood, vinyl, aluminum clad, or pvc to see which is best for your home/environment. Most people only post reviews when they've had problems, so a make sure the company you choose has good customer service support. If you are in the New England area, please check us out.

If privacy is the issue, get the sliders tinted to about 70%. You'll still get most of the natural light but will have privacy. Now, keep in mind this only works during the day. At night you are exposed. To address this, you may wish to do a floor to ceiling white sheer/linen curtains. The number of folds in the curtain will dictate the amount of visible silhouette at night. Hi Jim, you definitely should have a look at the Windows contractors in the Houzz Singapore professional directory, and contact them directly: https://www.houzz.com.sg/professionals/windows/c/singapore I'm pretty sure many of them will be able to do black frames, as it's a popular style recently.

I would post this in thewindow forum section of Garden Web. Post the area of the counrty you are building in and if possible an elevation of your home.

When I purchased windows, I selected one that was manufactured locally. In my case that's Milgard. I've had them two years and am very happy with the look, efficiency, ease of cleaning and the company's warranty. I received 4 bids from various installers, three of them use this brand and the bids varied in price, so do your due diligence.
