maybe a high upholstered banquette directly across from the kitchen? It will create a nice definition of space and can fell very luxurious. A banquette is also a great space saver. and often seats more people than a standard chair at a table If you use a long pedestal table you can slide it under the seat of the banquette when not in use. That leaves a wider path for you to get to the living room area by the windows.

room shape plays a role of course. If it cannot accommodate the width of a round table, you have to stick with rectangular. If you have room to accommodate both, it is the type of entertaining you do, which might influence the decision. a 120cm diameter round table can accommodate 4-5 people comfortably. if you make the table much larger than that, you lose intimacy. A split round table, with a 40cm insert can help accommodate another 3-4 pax, before getting crammed. with a rectangular table, you initially have the option of sitting across, 2 or 4 pax, or at one end, 3 pax, thereby maintaining intimacy. once the table is full, the far end tend to be too distant to hold a conversation.

We are building our new house with a round double height dining room for a round dining table and we want to have a ceiling fan as well as a long pendant lights that echo the roundness of the room. The design team is modern tropical. The ceiling fan would have to be on a very long rod and the pendant lights also. We don't want the epileptic effect of the fan spinning under the lights. Any ideas would be welcome.
