Don't know about ABET laminates, but grew up with laminate countertop from a different mfg. No problems. We never placed anything hot directly on them, always used hot plates. But then again, i would never place anything hot directly on a granite counter. To nice looking...why take the chance ?

Do you have enough height to put in a counter depth refrigerator that may be taller than usual? That way you can have added fridge storage going up. Or you can do a smaller refrigerator and buy a separate freezer for the basement.

Hi @leewinnie, it is TRUE that white countertops turn yellow, or amber overtime, and not an old wives' tale as suggested.
