Marble are non-porous thus it would cause etching and corrosion. Besides that, marble are high maintenance materials. Marble requires proper care and maintenance. Acid should never be used on marble as it shall loose its shine. Marble should be regularly polished over a period of time to give it a new look. If proper precautions are not taken the marble becomes yellowish in colour. Italian marble is usually very soft and prone to cracks. Proper resins have to be used to make the surface strong and solid and avoid further cracks. Proper sealants should be used in marble flooring as the marble is highly porous and prone to staining. It absorbs stains very quickly especially kitchen stains hence are not appropriate for kitchen counter tops. Quartz would be a better choice as quartz are non porous. Hi @leewinnie, it is TRUE that white countertops turn yellow, or amber overtime, and not an old wives' tale as suggested. Size of Hob on 7ft++ Island

Thanks Patricia! Sink has to be on island - my only prep space! Larger sink is with single gas hob some 20 steps away outside the main kitchen. (We live in a small condominium) I attached a photo of the 23" hob. Would this be workable? I was advised to go for a larger hob and use the hob itself also as prep space, as it won't heat up. What's your opinion about that? Thanks again for your comments!
