love this room! can you tell me what the room dimensions are from the wall with the stove to the half wall separating the dining space? Also, what the dimensions of the island? Thanks!

Hello, Please forgive my delay in getting back to you with this information. Regarding the room dimension from the wall that the stove is on to the short wall (not the island) is 14 ft. The island dimensions are 4' 1" x 10' 5" , 36 in tall with a 3 in butcher block top. I hope this helps with your project.

Hi Dagobert Duck (interesting name), I am assuming that this is a townhouse in Asia, as you mention the dry kitchen and wet kitchen (terms used mostly in Singapore) and also from the visible lift on the plan that you shared. I would definitly advice you to keep the dry kitchen and place the dining table close to the dry kitchen or close to the bay window on the left. The space here is rather large and can easily accommodate a regular 2 metre table with 8 chairs. If you are concerned about the view of dining table as you enter the house, you could always place a round table near the entrance to block off the view. I agree with Elaine about placing the furniture away from walls. Place a bunch of fresh flowers or art/sculpture above the round table like in a hotel entrance. So the the first view you see when you enter the house is the table with flowers. Its difficult to give you any further advice as we have no idea what your final vision of the place is? room shape plays a role of course. If it cannot accommodate the width of a round table, you have to stick with rectangular. If you have room to accommodate both, it is the type of entertaining you do, which might influence the decision. a 120cm diameter round table can accommodate 4-5 people comfortably. if you make the table much larger than that, you lose intimacy. A split round table, with a 40cm insert can help accommodate another 3-4 pax, before getting crammed. with a rectangular table, you initially have the option of sitting across, 2 or 4 pax, or at one end, 3 pax, thereby maintaining intimacy. once the table is full, the far end tend to be too distant to hold a conversation.

Hi EJ, I'm not going to be of much help, but I believe the obvious sources of reclaimed wood would be demolition and removal specialists in Singapore? At least that's how I know how antique dealers source vintage tiles in Singapore. Chatting with reclaimed wood furniture specialists like Journey East (https://www.houzz.com.sg/pro/journeyeast) might help too. And its true shipping costs from overseas would be prohibitive. Malaysia has always been this country's hinterland for raw material, and Indonesia has also played the part of being a significant sourcing ground for furniture makers in the region. You might want to (or have already) make sourcing trips to Central Java or Bali where costs might even be significantly lower than finding these pieces in Singapore.
