Have no idea what tile to choose. Help!

A leaky toilet ruined our laminate in this basement powder room. Husband wants to replace with tile but I have no idea what to pick. Attached are pictures. Now before you all comment on this very unusual vanity and sink....we know it’s different and we like it. Not everyone’s taste. It was a table that was my parents and I wanted to repurpose it into a vanity. So it’s staying! I just have no idea what type of tile to go with. TIA!

I like your vanity. I'd go with real wood in keeping with your traditional space.

First of all, that vanity is amazing!! Not my style but I can appreciate beautiful design when I see it. For the floor I would do a marble tile, to match the vanity top. Look into a marble hex tile in a medium size (a size up from the mini hex tile).

Maybe even an arabesque pattern to mimic your vanity shape. Then, match the grout to keep the pattern more subdued.

I have used Lumicor or 3Form resin panels for this application many times. The resin panels are translucent, letting light in but are still private. They are two panels with flat materials between them; like grass, rice paper, fabrics, metals, strings, bamboo, wood veneers, it is endless. Check both companies websites for different options of panels. Here are some examples. Another idea could be textured glass, like rain or water glass.

Only two pictures are showing up for me. Can you have black or dark grey cupboards in your vanity or a dark framed mirror so that the cream becomes more of an accent colour (ie, the colour of your bath tiles are the 70%, the cream is your 20% and another colour your 10%?).

that's my preference, but my live-in GC/carpenter (husband) wants tile. Lol, he does not know what style either, just that he wants tile.

Do I need to worry about etching/staining in the bathroom due to urine, since it is marble? This bathroom gets a lot of use when we entertain and also when we have grandkids over. "Aim" never seems very accurate, lol Old and young

The most durable material is porcelain tile as the color carries through the material so chips never show. The material is what they use in NYC subways need I say more. In terms of selections you can find these patterns which are lovely in that same material.

In your situation, marble is never a good choice. Urine stains...plain & simple. Find something in a porcelain tile that LOOKS like marble. You can thank me later....

If your husband is against real marble which I think the space warrants as that is what is on the gorgeous vanity top, then I think I'd do a plain white porcelain tile in a shape that brings the era of the vanity in. A plain white hexagon tile would work in this space. There are many sizes to chose from. My fear is if you chose a marble look alike it will feel like a look a like next to the real thing. My other thought would be real hardwood.

Hello Everyone has a opinion . Hardwood will not last as long in a wet condition. Again the porcelain tiles in a traditional shape would work as long as you stay not too small not too big. I like a nice arabesque shape to relate to the sink . Reminder to install at a 45 degree angle as it makes small spaces feel larger. You use a bit more tile in the waste of cutting .

A 3x3 mosaic / matte finish not shiny. These come on prefab 12x12 sheets and are easier to install

I’d do either a small black and white hex or dark slate in a large brick pattern. No black porcelain hex...it’ll be too modern to go with the vanity.

A marble mosaic is the way to go, it works with the style of the bathroom. If you're concerned on staining the real thing, there are plenty of great porcelain versions on the market that will give you the look.

I think I am leaning towards a slate look porcelain tile. Slate and marble too delicate for this bathroom. It gets a lot of traffic and use. If too fake looking then a matte charcoal or black large rectangle. Staggered brick pattern, or maybe angled.

A dark tile can look too modern and also will read very dark unless you significantly lighten your wall color. it seems the room has no window and little light.

i highly recommend a porcelain tile. something like this to match the counter... tile

i don't suggest dark because the room is already dark. you need to lighten it up!

I like the second basket weave with grey. It feels softer and more cohesive with the grey in your marble vanity top. I would also keep the grout a similar pale grey.

I think they're too weak design wise to the richness of the marble counter with the Ogee edge and the wood base. You don't have to do real marble mosaics, but i would select something nicer than ceramic basketweave.

I think you are driving yourself crazy . I ask you to look and ask yourself which one resonates with you in your home. Designers are your guides and always ask for you to listen to what your heart says . Everyone will have a different opinion. You are going to look at this floor for a long time and somehow I know you will make the right choice. One is the perfect choice
