Hello George! Apologize for the delay. These are custom cabinets from a great company in Salt Lake City called Craftsman Kitchens. These are Painted MDF - MDF has been unfairly maligned. High quality versions are better than painted solid wood because it does not warp, does not split, does not swell during the seasons and yet has wonderful heft like a hardwood. Are these your chairs? They are pretty good looking. You can go with something like a round copper-topped table, use them as a host and hostess chair in a formal dining setting, or as parlor/library occasional chairs. Those would be a few great uses for them. They are very nice and can either go rustic, craftsman, lodge or traditional in the right environment.

Wood moves with the temperature - hot/cold etc. Having said that unless you have placed your cabinets right next to a very hot radiator, or in direct sunlight, this should not happen. It also depends on the type of paint they have used - does it stretch with the wood? Any good cabinet maker would know this - I also note that these have been sprayed, and that may be the answer - sprayed paint will not move, whereas painted furniture does give. Do not think I would accept these, and stern words are needed with the supplier and put the ball back in their court. You should have at least one years guarantee with these, so I would ask another supplier what they think.

I'm not sure if there are any hard and fast rules but I think it needs to be probably at least half the width of the sofa to look good. In your case I would probably go for something 65-75% of the width of the sofa with maybe the height around 55-70% of the length. You could also try a large portrait style, the best thing to do is to cut out a template and hang it on the wall to see what you like as chesterfields are normally quite low. I'd also move the sofa slightly but are the ceiling lights positioned over the sofa? Hard to tell from the camera angle. I also thought of the Vintage film pics but maybe not original. My basement has a slight film theme with lighting ( actually I have a Chesterfield and cowhide too!) and I have large black and white pics of movie stars but not from film clips ie the iconic Michael Caine shot taken by David Bailey. I also love vintage travel posters, I know they've been around for quite a while now but you could find a destination that means something to you. Or look at industriał style art with a pop of colour. Or an abstract with pops of colour.
