Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

House exterior paint ideas?

Struggling to decide on a good colour combo for the house render, door and frames/trim. Or any other suggestions which will help the curb appeal. Not looking for anything too loud, but I'm just struggling for inspiration. I have some ideas but just can't picture them, could do with some help!I was thinking a light grey/ off white render, with a red or navy front door. Unsure if the window frames need painting but just flirting with the idea. All suggestions welcome!

Update...

For the door we went with Dulux Green Glade multisurface paint. Render was Dulux trade weathershield Timeless (meant to be a very slightly warm white, but to my eye looks like bright white). Either way we are very pleased. I think the black at the bottom brings it all together.

Going to paint the door handle black, and then the focus will be on planting for the front garden. We like the idea of having some raised wooden planters either side of the path - but obviously due to the steep slope we're not sure how we can do this. Again, any thoughts are welcome and appreciated !

Since you have white and black windows, fans, doors, gates, you need a light tan beige rather than an off white cream - off white will just look dirty next to the white. Something that goes warm neutral instead of yellow will work well. Tropical can mean lots of different things to different people - pick one accent color - a lagoon type green-blue-green with large leafy palms, and add a sail shade (triangle shaped) in the same tone to the upper deck.

Hi Rachel, This is quite easy to fix. Firstly I would brighten the space up with a white paint such as Nippon Violet Whispers (warm white), this will give you a good base to work from. Then I would replace your table with one that is larger. This table is too small to be useful and is making your entrance feel small. I recommend using teak and keeping this console table simple in design. On the wall I would place artwork - the bigger the better as this will make a dramatic statement. Then add some lighting (table lamp on console table) and decorative items and voila your entrance will be instantly chic! I have mocked up two options for you - one is based on blues, the other pinks, so depending on your preference you can go either way. Your home looks cozy. Cant really tell what is the existing colour on the walls? Is it white? Try painting a sample of sage green. Look at a tone that you like. If all else fails, speak to a creative designer who could come to your home and help you re-look your space.

I think an off white render will go nicely. Some whites can be more on the yellowy-cream side so get samples if possible. I think a little porch, or half porch would add interest if budget allows. I’m not a fan of red, but that’s just me! Blue or green would be more my choice, but of course it’s your house. I’ve seen lilac and pink doors that look amazing but it’s not for everyone.

I’m with Sonia and feel that the existing colour suggests the original builder intended the houses to have a modern cottage feel and therefore softer colours are probably best. I would keep the windows white and then paint the render a soft shade of any colour or off white…. In my opinion the current front door demonstrates red doesn’t suit this house and a heritage grey or blue would look nice. I also think getting rid of the grass and having planting to soften the front garden could be a huge improvement and once done mean less maintenance

Thanks for your ideas. We've opted for an off-white render with a sage front door. Love the idea of having a canopy above the door but looks a little expensive. I'll post some photos when the work is done. Thanks all 🙂

I found a wooden canopy porch for sale on eBay. Then I found a self assembly one for £160 (canopy only) at B&Q so certainly worth searching online.

So far it looks great. On the drive side of the path I would choose a creeping plant. The RHS link has some good recommendations. Under the window I would choose something taller and low maintenance evergreen shrubs such as rhododendrons, bay tree, and camellias.

Don’t forget that planting looks more impactful when you group several of the same plants.

Looks so much better. The raised path is a bit odd, but planting either side will disguise the drop. Planting straight in the soil will make the plants easier to care for as planters dry out very quickly and will need watering daily. Even watering in the plants in the soil will be a bit awkward with the slope, but placing a plant pot near the plant and watering into that will help.

My favourite all round evergreen plant is the choysia sundance that I would plant half way up the slope, the plant pot idea of Sonia’s is clever, this plant is great in winter for evergreen brightness. under the window maybe some plants that give great perfume …..i adore daphnes for early spring scent, then roses etc
