Window treatment ideas please

Definitely need help here. I'm not sure why the builder didn't add a transom. A transom is likely not possible due to HOA and costs, etc. Help please!

A shelf over the doors and an top -down bottom up shade for the window. Are you going to have a dining table at the window? If so, dropping down a pendant light will help correct the look. In fact, I would wait until that is done before you decide on what to do with the windows.

Are you saying that cooking next to the chute would gross you out even if its covered? Andd to use it for its intended purpose? In the first picture, it looks like the stove is directly underneath the chute, but I can see in other pics that it is not. I think it is far enough away. If everything is bagged properly, it shouldn't be that bad. You will have to check on local code regarding having the stove next to the window. Code may make your decision for you. People usually just put shorter cabinets above that type of range hood. I would recommend doing so because you need all the storage you can get. The hood--being different from the bank of cabinets--will provide relief to the eye. With cabinets above, it'll still feel balanced. And, as for covering the chute, do you want to cover it and restrict access or do you still need to use it for its intended purpose and just want to camouflage it? To help the room feel pleasant, cheery, and light, I recommend using a glass tile. Even though it's applied to a wall, the translucency still shows and evokes a sense of the adjectives above. I think it would help keep things light. Consider a slightly higher toe-kick underneath the lower cabinets. It helps to create a lighter-footed feeling. You could also consider cabinets that have furniture style feet. for a more open feeling. Your kitchen seems like an ideal room to use modern, lacquered cabinets. I don't know if you like the super-modern look, but I think it could be nice. Maybe just for the uppers. Use a medium-to-light toned wood on the bottom. A limestone floor might be nice. Or you can do wood or laminate. You could go with dark or light. I think it's mostly about preference.

Integrating balcony with the living room

I will include the picture once I collect the keys to the apartment. The apartment is 1400 sq ft. and it is located on the 16 th floor. The living room and the balcony floor is at the same level. The French doors, which I intend to remove, separate and protect the living room from the open balcony. But the current owner had installed aluminum casement windows at the balcony. These windows I think will provide sufficient protection from the elements, hence the idea of doing away with the French doors. The authority would not allow us to remove the three feet high concrete wall of the balcony. The idea of the platform (a) to differentiate the living room/balcony boundary, (b) to raise the floor height so one can drink tea at the balcony and admire the view too.

I would run honeycomb blinds (blackout or not), one running the whole distance to the edge of the other window, then run the short one so it runs into the other blind making a butt joint. this seems to me to be light tight and pleasing to the eye.

First you need to purge and clean up. Living in a bit of chaos makes it hard to define spaces. I strongly suggest you find ways to store clothes etc . There are under the bed storage units and cabinets you can buy to make some order. First paint that green wall either the blue or the white (or is it a light blue). Or paint the whole room one lighter color ( a beige, a gray, a pale blue) . The lighter the color , the bigger the space will look. I've 'bought' you a large closet ( chifferobe or armoire) to put your clothes in. It would be about 6 feet tall and 3 -5 feet wide. I put it across from your bed. I moved your desk ( is there actually a desk under your stuff in the room???) to your window , facing out the window. If you need privacy, some blinds or a pair of curtains ( hung high over the window) would be nice. I placed your white cabinet ( I can see on the left) next to your bed to double as a nightstand and for storage. I would suggest trying to match a set of sheets ( preferably white) and a nice bedspread ( comforter). I can't see a TV in your room, but if you do have one and are allowed to wall mount it, do so. You could likely place it on the wall to the left of the large closet. Here is my mock up and some pictures of bedspreads etc: OR Curtain idea: Clothes closet ( armoire) And a desk if you don't have one. All these are available at Wayfair.com. OR you can buy as needed.

Do you need light control and/or privacy? Or are you just trying to figure out the decor?

@deegw minimal privacy on the slider, mainly at night. I plan to put 2inch faux wood blinds on the window, however still on the fence.

Hang curtains for your slider nice and high so it brings your eye up with the top of the window.

I'm not sure there is room between the slider and the cabinet to hang a full curtain panel. And a curtain panel will definitely cover the light switches on the right. Perhaps you can use a touch mechanism pull-down shade that hides under an outside mount valance when you don't need it.

That would drive me crazy, too! It looks like you look out on a very nice deck, bringing your focus to outdoors.

This is an idea you may consider: Creating a fake transom over the patio door to align with the top of the window on that elevation. The frame can be anything even just a thin white frame.

Then you can concentrate on the window treatment.

@Denise M. My style is moden cozy chic. Thinking to do a molding pattern on the wall to the right witha thicker chair rail milding in the middle.

You can use a rod across the whole wall, placed at the top of the window, so it gives the illusion of being the same height. Or consider leaving the slider bare if you don't need privacy there, and use a simple shade on just the window. The 2 inch blinds will have a big stack when up and cover a lot of light and view when down.

If you could post a floor plan …I think it would help a great deal …as scale is important in spaces like yours…also it appears you have privacy in respect to not having other homes facing yours?.. if so that would affect the need for window coverings?

I'd add a plantation shutter on the window and a motorized screen shade on the door. I'd aim for a 5% shade on the door to keep the view but still feel like you have a little bit of privacy in the evening. If you have an actual privacy concern you should aim for maybe 1% instead.
