It doesn't seem like these colors should clash, and the overall proportions seem right, but there is something about this combination that just doesn't feel right. I love the gold vintage fireplace surround, but I have zero furniture of the same style. I see people combine periods and styles all the time, but I'm just not sure this works.

Would it make a difference if the frame had a mirror in it, or if there were a collection of Buddhist chedis like those pictured below arranged in the center on staggered stands? Ugh - feel like I know just enough to get myself in trouble sometimes - thanks.

Hello, yes i agree with you on the proportions of the piece and the colors that don't clash, these colors were used in 1700 french furniture pieces. Is this used as a commode or a dresser? i feel that a mirror with an antique mirror effect is the best solution to complete this furniture piece. The frame already speaks for itself, therefore, i definitely wouldn't put those buddhist chedis objects on it.
Dont worry if you don't have furniture similar to this, as long as you position it on a wall by itself. I usually place distinctive pieces of furniture inside my interior projects._Leonardo

What are the dimensions? If you are afraid space will be too tight, you could skip the table and just do a grand lounge area: start with a 4 to 5 ft diameter round or square coffee table, then surround that with a U shaped sectional.
