I have painted the trim and doors the same color. it is a bit much on the white side. The walls are Revere Pewter and the trim is White Dove. All Benjamin Moore paint.
Should I paint the doors another color or possibly the panels?
They only have one coat so far. Other rooms will have different wall colors, the trim is the same. Two of the pictures show Revere Pewter and two show Classic Gray on the walls.

Comments (6)Hello there :) Nice design by the way. Perhaps you can: 1. Change the door panels only. Keep the existing shape & the cupboards, the carpenter can 'update' the doors with different handles too (like image above). 2. Spray paint is more $$$ but I think it is longer lasting. 3. Laminated is less $$ but as we all know it chips & eventually the laminate comes out (wear & tear). 4. Unless you want the inside of the cabinet to be changed from existing white to a different colour, then the carpenter have to dismantle everything & redo. I’ve decided to incorporate everyone’s comments. 1) Using Nippon rememberance for the wall color 2) Using pastel curtains with 3M to cover the ugly door and meter box 3) Making my own night stand from books 4) Getting a big art piece for the side wall 5) Putting a 55 inch TV at the foot of my bed for well, extravagance Some quick questions... 1) what color curtains and table top work best with this shade of grey? For the table top, I might get a fresh piece of wood and laminate myself. 2) what modern frame do you recommend for this wall and this kind of art, or should I drop the frame, and innovate, maybe just get a big piece of plastic and glue the sides? ;) 3) any fun ideas for the TV stand? I don’t want to rent a minivan just to transport the tv stand, and the space between my bed and the planned curtain is tiny - like 45cm. So I’m thinking of an adhoc tv stand and stabilising it in a different way. :) Ok, you guys have been super crazy helpful! 10 years agoIt was fairly common back then to paint inset panels a very slightly different color of white (or a different sheen) or a pale color to give the room more dimension, but not so dark that it is that noticeable at first glance. Historical productions by the BBC are terrific for this, like their version of Pride and Predjudice, Middlemarch, etc.. Maggie Smith's house in Downton Abbey, and the movie version of Sense and Sensibility,
There was a post awhile ago about paint colors for a dining room that had specific recommendations for shades of white for paneled walls. Probably would be hard to find now...
The walls in the drawing room in the show looked like creamy white, light green or blue green depending on the light, and this picture from the film location Byfleet Manor, it looks grey, almost like your walls. Revere Pewter has that chameleon quality--maybe a lighter version would work.
