Need help for my kitchen

We're starting from a blank slate. Nothing but 2x4's are existing. We're going with white cabinets, marble carrera countertops, hardwood floors... Bronze pendants, kitchen knobs, but brushed nickel faucet and old cast iron white sink. However, we're keeping the original appliances for now... which aren't the greatest. White fridge, white stove with black flat top electric range, black dishwasher. Two questions - 1) does this all sound good so far and 2) we're trying to decide on a range hood that would look best for the space...

Marble can stain easily in a kitchen countertop application. I would recommend looking into the Quartz countertop materials such as Caesarstone , Silestone and Cambria. Quartz countertops are stain / scratch resistant, and come in various marble style patterns and colors.

I would move away from the marble as well. As beautiful as it is, it stains and requires regular sealing...even sealed it stains. Red wine, mustard, ketchup, soya sauce are all no-no's around marble. The man-made quartz products are the way to go if you want the look of marble with the hardiness of a man-made products. If you can save some money on the marble and move it into up grading your appliances.

I was hoping to see a photo because I thought maybe there are other options than curtain dividers. If you say that the space is not that big, I think it should not be closed with curtain dividers. It could stay open but separated with a sofa table with a vase or a lamp.

Your drawing does not show enough information to render much advice. I assume the few dimensions you show are in centimeters ? If you are looking for advice from US designers we are work in inches. The best advice I can offer is to hire a certified kitchen designer. Believe me it will be well worth the money when you consider the dollars spent on a kitchen remodel. You can find designers in your area thru NKBA.org.

Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. I'm thinking the feature wall is kind of plain, but it covers up where the fridge is sticking out.

Hello there :) Nice design by the way. Perhaps you can: 1. Change the door panels only. Keep the existing shape & the cupboards, the carpenter can 'update' the doors with different handles too (like image above). 2. Spray paint is more $$$ but I think it is longer lasting. 3. Laminated is less $$ but as we all know it chips & eventually the laminate comes out (wear & tear). 4. Unless you want the inside of the cabinet to be changed from existing white to a different colour, then the carpenter have to dismantle everything & redo. I would also suggest to NOT do marble, unless you understand it can scratch, etch and stain. However White carrera is slightly more affordable than the man made products available out there. On average they are slightly more expensive. Depending on what you pick. Good luck!
