Does Cement Tile Stain?
Comments (6)Cement tile is very popular in my area now. My client is considering it for a bathroom. I am unlikely to recommend epoxy or any other coating. It would change the look and feel too much. I prefer to apply penetrant. I call it that, rather than "sealer," because it does not prevent leaks, or even absorption in porous tile, or grout. It protects calcium based cement and grout from reacting with acid, but it is not perfect and it needs to be reapplied periodically. Wine, salad dressing, lemon, and any tart food would react with cement I am hesitant to recommend cement tile for a bathroom. I am afraid of it as a kitchen floor. Sure it is a knock-out gorgeous material, but will caring for it make some clients wish they hadn't fallen in love? I would like to hear from home owners who have lived with it for a few years. Comments (20)One of my pet peeves was with my ex, he insisted he would help wash the pots/pans that could not go in the dishwasher. However, even if they sat in the sink for days he would get angry at me for "not trusting him to keep his word" if I washed them before he got to it. So my choices were to wait - sometimes weeks - with the same dirty pots sitting in the sink and unable to use them for cooking until they were clean or wash them myself and get yelled at and send him into a spiral of depression since he had bipolar tendencies. Oh - and of course if I ever mentioned the fact that there were unwashed pots in the sink or asked when he would get to them that was considered "nagging" and would cause another argument and subsequent depression....See MoreTufted Round Ottoman for Your Home

Comments (3)Wood moves with the temperature - hot/cold etc. Having said that unless you have placed your cabinets right next to a very hot radiator, or in direct sunlight, this should not happen. It also depends on the type of paint they have used - does it stretch with the wood? Any good cabinet maker would know this - I also note that these have been sprayed, and that may be the answer - sprayed paint will not move, whereas painted furniture does give. Do not think I would accept these, and stern words are needed with the supplier and put the ball back in their court. You should have at least one years guarantee with these, so I would ask another supplier what they think....See Morejsann

I'm DIY staining the honey oak cabinets to dark walnut and repainting the multi-layered walls to a plain beige. Someday when we have money, I'll put in white quartz counter tops and a new back splash.My inspiration:

8 years agoSuper efficient. 85" of prep space between fridge and pantry, across from range in galley kitchen. Double pantry (68" wide) with 10 ROTs within two steps of range and prep area. Four 30" wide drawer bases within two steps of range. 178" of counter across from prep space. Dishes and utensils stored adjacent to DW and close to dining area, Keurig on counter underneath upper cabinet where coffee mugs are kept. Enough counter space to keep Kitchen Aid mixer out all the time. Plenty of room to pass between countertop and fully opened 30 CF French door fridge. All inside 250 SF kitchen. A few more finishing touches are needed but the kitchen has been together long enough to see the layout works as well in practice as it looked on paper.

Before we purchased the house. we replaced the crazy "designer" island counter which matched the rest of the "designer" kitchen; also, a couple of the appliances, the ugly wood floors.
I would like to totally redo this kitchen, but, I don't know if I want to spend the money on it.Etta McFadden
