Like that the door also has storage. I think this could be a great place for us to keep spices when we create the pantry. That way we can get to them w/o walking inside and can use where they are now for storing more cans and what not.

hidden (butler's) pantry. Perhaps it could be flanked by the fridge?

Would this be a good option for a pantry or do we need/want something with more flexible space or walkin?

Island seating has people face each other & they don’t obstruct storage.

Still open to there being visual access to the den from the kitchen, but wonder if we'd want to be able to visually block it off sometimes.

The seating area at the end has guests face each other. If you put a foot rest of some sort, that could be comfortable and the cocktail bar could be at the same end of the kitchen for better conversations. If the cooktop was at the other end (with the sink?) then guests could talk access the bar, talk to us whether we're cooking or just hanging out and making drinks. I also like that there is no storage where the seating is, so I don't have to disturb people sitting there.

Remodeling? Here Are 5 Essential Kitchen Upgrades to Consider

Dual fuel stove/range. Electric stove is better. Gas on the range, if Steve wants.

Could put bar under the counter ?

Like being able to easily get to the back.

I like the butcher block, but I wonder if it's 1) easy to clean and 2) the placement seems too far from where you'd be using what you cut.

10 Dos and Don’ts When Designing a Kitchen Island

Q

Stovetop and prep sink in the island.

Q

Photo

Hurray for a stovetop in the island that faces your guests!

Q

Photo

I like how the sides go up, so things don't fall out when you pull out the drawers.

Q

Though this is a mirror, it made me think of wavy glass windows. What if we had that & could shut them when no party.

Q

The door to the pantry looks like the cabinets

Q

Storage accessed from the side so guests don’t have to move.

Partial meta ceiling might not be as loud.

Stove in island. The wood base is nice. Island isn’t overwhelmingly large. Kitchen opens to den but with a small wall so you can’t just see the mess when sitting in the den.

Q

Photo

The stove is in the island with a convenient sink & the counter & island are a nice color combo. The island feels a little too large, though.

Q

Photo

Good look except for cross bracing.

Q

Under a butcher block could be a good place to store cast iron & staub.

Q

Pull down shelves, so you don't need a ladder.

Q

I wonder if the entry (where the laundry is now) to the kitchen could be/feel more like a pantry and have functional countertops/hidden small appliances.

Q

Photo

Or is this a better idea for the laundry?

Like the idea of a workstation sink. Seems like a better option that lots and lots of countertop.

Q

Love those bar stools, especially with the dark (?slate) counter top.

I like the graining pattern on the side of the island. Don't really like anything else in the room, except maybe the light fixture.
