Reply to: I like the Saltillo. paint the brick white, replace that mantel with a longer one that goes all the way across, and paint the insert a matte black. btw,,,you could easily fir out most of that brick and cover it mdf and trim (so the entire thing would look like a wall of wainscot). You could also easily tile over it, so skim it with mortar or stucco. lots of options that don't cost an arm and leg. But for now, here are some painting options. here's a type of mantel I was referring too. something that runs the length. And if that room gets a lot light, and the other walls or white, painting it black would look really cool against the Saltillo. or Cobalt oh,,,did you know you can stain your tiles?
