Bharitya City Nikoo Homes

Designing a compact home always comes with a unique set of challenges. When Edwin & Esha Stanley, co-founders & design heads at Concepto Studio, were commissioned to design the interiors of an 850 sq ft home in Bangalore, they wanted to make sure every inch counts. They decided to opt for carefully chosen colours, earthy textures and lots of plants for this 2BHK to instil the vibe of a verdant sanctuary of privacy. Its style, realised by the studio, is in equal parts modern and modest. They wanted the home’s design to be an extension of the homeowner’s personality. The main door leads to the open-layout living and dining area, described by a clean colour palette and minimalist design. Wall-to-wall glass windows bring in natural light and create a sense of expanse within minimal square footage. Modern furniture and woody textures further enhance the design narrative, especially accent walls with geometrically patterned wooden strips and battens. The clean-lined minimalism and restrained colour palette make a relatively small space look spacious and serene. All the furniture in the living room has been customised. A dash of richness from the velvety chair and metallic flourishes bring elegance. Textured grey walls juxtapose the warmth of the wood. Floating drawers beneath the Television offer storage without taking up precious floor space. Adjacent to the living space is the dining area. A vast mirror on the console opposite reflects natural light and creates the illusion of more space, replacing the need for a window. Combining grey and light wood creates an exciting combination, merging fantastic with earthy. The marble table-top layers this space with a touch of luxury. Considering the home's restricted footage, the little details create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing scheme. The kitchen is a quaint yet functional space doused in earthy colours. Soft blues and hints of gold define the area. The concept of the master bedroom continues from the living room, integrating simple furniture and woody elements in a clean, uncluttered space. A padded headboard with curved patterns softens the ambience. The right maroon hue in the bed offsets the pristine white cabinets, tying together the surrounding design and materials, which display different forms and textures. A pendant lamp in gold and a side table flank the bed. The other side has cosy window seating to make the most of the expansive window while offering hidden storage. The second bedroom provides continuity to the design narrative of the quiet colours and linear design of the apartment. It features a soft, padded headboard in curvilinear with crisp modern furniture. A textured wall behind the bed and wooden panelling add visual interest. Like the master bedroom, the window seating doubles as a storage area. This compact home is a testament to making the most of precious space at a premium. Clean-lined layout, furniture with soft edges, and functional design ensure effective space optimisation, making the home appear larger than it is. The elegant yet easy-going design ensures that maximum space can be utilised without compromising on style or aesthetics.
