Borrelli kitchen remodel

This is the kitchen for grown-up empty nesters. Although the kitchen caters to the physical demands of clients who are gourmet cooks, it also doubles as a sophisticated space for evening cocktail parties. The clients’ main request was to open the kitchen and somehow introduce a long-desired island where the cook is able to socialize with guests while cooking. This was challenging, as the physical footprint of the kitchen is relatively small and no structural modifications were possible. The solution was to introduce a wedge-shaped, angled cabinetry plan, with deeper surfaces at one end tapering to shallower depths for serving etc. The inset bookshelf was originally a recessed cabinet that was opened and extended to showcase the client’s cache of sculptures from world travels.
