The new front door is where the old gate to the atrium was. The old second story additon was actually raised over 12 inches to give the new room below the height that it needed. A new front porch roof and the massing of the addition give the old second story addition a sense of being a part of the entire design.
It was also very important to create a sense of an entry porch even though the new front door was located very close to the garage door. This was acheived by placing the doors back several feet from the garage and by placing a porch roof over the entry.
