Medhurst Residence

The expectation of this kitchen in rural Bombay, was for it to feel inspiring, fresh and ultra-contemporary, while at the same time remain elegant and timeless. Being in the medical industry, the pair appreciated an orderly layout and wanted a fairly minimalist approach. They also sought an uncluttered workflow, with good connection to a bar area. The handpicked onyx benchtop with subtle veining adds character. Brass elements in the taps, sink and pendants give a coveted prestige and personality to a fairly utilitarian theme, with just enough ‘glitz’ to pop against a white palette. Evident in the floor to ceiling cabinetry is faultless workmanship. American oak timber veneer has provided warmth to the space, and in a design sense, is a nod to its rural backdrop. An easy to clean Miele cooktop, complete with an extractor unit, removes the need for an unsightly rangehood. The clients are thrilled with the form of the central island, as it appears to rest delicately in the space. Strip lighting at floor height adds to the ambience. The built in bar in the adjoining room is very much part of the design story, with cabinetry matching the kitchen. A further injection of brass is a talking point with guests. Our clients love the workflow of this sociable hub being separate to the kitchen, yet still connected in theme and quality. Our discerning clients asked for a restful respite with modern functionality, yet ready for a soiree at the drop of a hat. They are thrilled!
