“I contacted Jane when we wanted to extend our house to add a new room and replace an existing (but dilapidated) utility room. Jane offered a knowledgeable and insightful perspective on the project, and suggested we converted our garage rather than extend, as it could save us money. This we did. From the start of the project, Jane provided a professional and practical service, allowing us to choose from a 'shopping basket' of services she could provide for us. We chose for Jane to provide a light-touch project management role, which involved drawing and submitting the plans, dealing with building control, structural engineer, and quantity surveyor, dealing with the tenders for the job and dealing with the builders during the build. This worked out really well for us, it being our first project and having busy day-jobs. We were kept informed at each step, and consulted when appropriate. Jane had to contend with an unusually shaped roof, which was replaced, raised and extended, together with sound-proofing designed into the construction. She also managed to make clever use of the space to include not only the required downstairs loo, but a shower room, which together with the new music room has effectively created a 'guest wing'. We are very pleased with the result - the new brickwork and roof sit alongside the existing house as though part of the original build, thanks to Jane's attention to detail”

They were able to creatively adapt to an evolving brief as the nature of the existing house was uncovered and changes needed. “I employed Ben Cunliffe and his team to redesign my two bedroom single storey home with a view to creating a two storey family home. My brief was to maximise space and light and where possible to incorporate green technologies. Ben's design process was inspirational. After 2 meetings we had agreed a design to go to planning and 8 weeks later we had planning permission. His design ideas encapsulated everything I wanted and more. We were able to design a building that had floor to ceiling windows in every room maximising light and views from every room. The ideas of breaking up the exterior of the house with different local materials appealed to me and I am delighted with my contemporary home built with local stone and larch. Ben's knowledge of green technologies was exceptional and we decided to go down the route of installing a ground source heat pump leaving the plumbing and electrics in place to add solar panels at a date. I couldn't have been happier with the service, advice and guidance I received.”

“We consulted Sara on the advice of another professional. From the start of the project (a self-build) Sara had a total appreciation of our aims. We knew there was a good house to be built on the site of a dull 1920's bungalow but Sara translated this into a first-class design and exceeded our hopes. She saw us through a difficult planning stage with such diplomacy and skill that the Planners were singing her praises as an architect they really enjoyed working with! Is this a first? Although Sara consulted with us at every stage the truth is that her original ideas were so close to what we dreamed of that very few alterations were needed. We responded to Sara's technique of asking searching questions about us and our life-style and then talking us through the implications of this for the design process and the resultant, final submission was everything we asked for. Sara helped with all stages, working well with our builder and other tradespeople and after her involvement was largely over she has stayed involved advising us on materials and fittings as the work devolved to us and not professionals. This aspect of Sara's involvement was particularly good since we knew that Sara was always available for support and advice. We have recommended her to others and we know that they have been equally delighted.”

“We cannot speak highly enough of Nick and his team. Nick took time to get to know us and our property to ensure the designs created we’re just right for us and our home. He listened to what we wanted (rather than impose his ideas) and then offered different options to develop our idea, based on his experience and skills. The cost estimate was transparent and exactly as expected, as was the project plan presented at the outset. Most importantly, however, when communicating to us any objections raised by the planning office, Nick and his team had already devised a solution with which planning (with whom they obviously have good relations) were satisfied meaning that, despite a number of hurdles, the process was hassle free from our perspective. As I say, extremely impressed and highly recommended.”

“We hired Ian Whitworth of Progressive Architecture for the detailed architectural design of Woodcock House from planning approval through building regulations and the issue of construction and fabrication drawings. He made many significant improvements to the design and liaised with structural engineers and fabricators. He worked to a high professional standard in a timely manner. Ian was always helpful and courteous and was a pleasure to work with. He did an excellent job for us and we give him the highest recommendation.”
