Deck attachment

I can see the corner post is in the ground, but how are the other posts attached? I live in Palmer Alaska where, if the wind isn't blowing, it's about to. Structures need to be seriously stable if they are to survive

The entire frame is anchored to the deck, and the mesh itself acts like solid panels. It is very solid! We get severe winds here as well.

You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example).

I have to say that well made Roman Shades are not cheap, they are the higher end of the market. Secondly the thing to consider is that they are an all or nothing product, they are either open or closed. What part of the country do you live in? What direction do the windows face, and how often are those doors used? Drapery that can not be moved completely out of the way will get caught in the doors all the time, so while I hate taking out a window for any reason, removing it might make sense as it seems rather redundant. Don't do any type of venetian if this door is used a lot, and if you do, make sure you do an outside mount, allowing for the stack to go above the frame of the doors when they are open. I suggest that you look into Hunter Douglas Polysatin Shutters, they are great on french doors, and the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella Vertiglide is perfect on doors, they also come as a duo light, meaning you can put two blinds into one product - so a sheer and an opaque or semi-opaque product. Just some thoughts to consider.

Hi Tammy, these planter boxes are pretty common these days and we've covered lots of them for homeowners staying in places like The Minton and The Palette. Our proposed solution is to build a stainless steel structure with industrial-grade walkway grating to span the depression in the balcony. This solution ensures a lifespan of 10 years and beyond. Then, we give homeowners the option of covering the area with artificial grass or wooden decking. I'm not sure about your balcony, but most balconies do get rainwater falling on it. The green (they come in different colours, too, if you'd like to be psychedelic) adds a lively pop of colour to a blah space, and they're designed in easy-to-install tile-style units that have some built-in drainage for minimal maintenance. Absolut Outdoors and Green Turf can tell you more :) And I'd hang an outdoor art piece or a screen for air plants on that blank wall, too, to enliven your balcony.
