I had this table made by a local woodworker, and the ottomans from a local upholsterer.

It's just a large + base, with the glass on top & the for ottomans slide under for extra seating.

I'm sorry, but I thought the middle ottoman was a baked potato before opening your "discussion". And seeing the dark brown ottoman in a larger pic.... I can't think of a kind word to describe it. If my dog left one of those on my floor he'd be in trouble.

Wood dye is different than stain - I never worked with it but I think it soaks into the grain a lot more than stain which sits more on top. Make sure you try it out first on a scrap piece of oak (or the underside of your table).
