How can I hide an existing column in the kitchen

Hello I am doing a kitchen renovation now and what I did not anticipate behind the walls is an existing column that will go smack into one of the cabinets.

Do you have alternative ideas to hide this column? My kitchen cabinets are fixed as I bought them, ready for assemble as pictured. Cabinets are all white, tiles are gray. Counter tops are marble. Basically I wanted a simple white modern kitchen.

I am open to other alternative suggestions or lay- out.

The image is so small I can hardly see it to be honest - but if simple is what you are after then leave the column painted wall colour and that will be that . Some people suggest mirror cladding stuff to make it disappear but that only works if everything around it is similar colour and then the illusion goes when you stand in front of it and see yourself !

You could use the column for something useful like hanging utensils or cooking tools if you have the height or a towel rack or if you want to just hide it you could put fairy lights on/around it to give a homely feel.my personal opinion would be if there is a ledge you should get some vintage alcohol bottles and put them there as decoration and it works nice in most households.if no ledge just get a wine rack and screw it to the column

My personal preference is for seamless hardwood throughout (except bathrooms), but it is just that--a personal preference. Many people prefer tile in their kitchen and hardwood floors through the rest of the house, or some other combination of floorings. Even though it seems like there are so many photographs on Houzz of seamless floors throughout, remember than whenever you are seeing a kitchen with a tile floor the chances are good that the rest of the house is not that same tile. So even though you aren't seeing the seams in the photos, many have them.

One refinement on the all white solution: get three distinct whites for walls, ceiling, and trim. While you are considering marine-gloss magenta for the dining room, you will feel less as though you are a prisoner in a stark white box. Benjamin Moore has some lovely, non-stark whites and off whites in their classic whites group. Their historical collection is particularly soothing, including: Concord Ivory Monterey White greys Edgecomb Gray Wickham Gray (very pale) Stonington Gray (a little darker) Revere Pewter (warm) Coventry Gray (neutral) pale yellows Windham Cream Hepplewhite Ivory and plenty of interesting beiges.

Boy, it sure looks like the refrigerator doors open on the wrong side--can you get the developer to swap it out or change the door swing?--must be a mistake. I would find that really annoying, especially in such a small workspace. I really see a movable island parallel to the cabinets in this space with storage underneath and maybe a hanging pot rack with lights and maybe some shelving above, possibly with some stools for casual dining. Do you have room for something like that? A freestanding stainless metal full- or counter-height shelf on casters adjacent to the sink could be really helpful. You could put some simple white dishpans or bins on it as a temporary holding place for dirty dishes while you are cooking, and use the rest for overflow for big pots or pantry items. The L counter with the curved sink might be a little awkward, but sure beats not having some usable counter space. If that is all you are adding, then perhaps a cart with a shelf that flips up for extra prep or dining space would work for you. I would pay the money to get decent lighting. I think I see a thin range hood over the cooktop. If this is European, there should be wiring and a plug for the range hood, so I wouldn't think it would be too expensive to run some wire for lights Doesn't the range hood already have lights. BTW?

We have the same "problem" having knocked down a wall, and found a pipe that cannot be moved. So we have a pillar, and have left it as just a pillar. Not attempted to do anything with it, hide it, or put anything on it. Painted same colour as walls, and it does just fade into the room.

sometimes it helps making a prominent feature out of it, moving more towards framing the units, this will create a more built in look
