Need Help on Colour Painting
Comments (9)One refinement on the all white solution: get three distinct whites for walls, ceiling, and trim. While you are considering marine-gloss magenta for the dining room, you will feel less as though you are a prisoner in a stark white box. Benjamin Moore has some lovely, non-stark whites and off whites in their classic whites group. Their historical collection is particularly soothing, including: Concord Ivory Monterey White greys Edgecomb Gray Wickham Gray (very pale) Stonington Gray (a little darker) Revere Pewter (warm) Coventry Gray (neutral) pale yellows Windham Cream Hepplewhite Ivory and plenty of interesting beiges....See MoreNeed help for curtain color, rug and some designing tips
Comments (1)You have a very difficult room to work with here. For the curtains I would definitely choose something with pattern and a color that will "warm up the space" . I would buy longer panels that would go to atleast the top of the baseboard. I would also add a textured bamboo shade in a warm wood tone behind the curtains. By layering the window treatments you can completely hide the window when you don't want to see it without having to mess with the curtains. If you are going to keep all of the furnishings that you have in the room, I would defintely rearrange them. I would try to wall-mount the TV on the wall where the white sofa is now.You could place it on a hinged bracket which would allow you to swing it out for viewing and then push back out of the way when not in use. If cou cannot wall mount it, I still think that I would relocate it here. I would place the white sofa in front of the window (with it's lovely new blinds and curtains) which would supply a better "backdrop" for it than the white wall which it is now blending into. If you could, it would actually be a good idea to lose the white couch altogether, leave the black sofa where it is, and place a low bench or a pair of ottomans facing the black couch thus creating a conversation group while still being able to see over them when watching TV. I would define the seating group with a plush area rug with plenty of warm color that will compliment your new curtains while warming up the white floors. In fact, since the rug is probably going to be the most expensive item I would pick it out first and let it set the color palette for you....See MoreDIY white washing help
Comments (8)If the wood is raw, that would mean it has no stain, paint or sealer on it, in which case you would only need to sand the two years worth of use it has. If all dirt, grease, etc isn't off the piece before you whitewash it, this will show in the new finish. Sand it well, don't miss any areas, don't take any shortcuts. Then get some white stain, follow the instructions on the can, and finish with several coats of polyurethane. I find I get the very best results by using Minwax products....See Moreneed help for my bedroom!
Comments (1)First of all, your floor shouldn't constrain you. You can resolve its impact on the room by placing a large rug on the floor. I would go for a soft shag cream rug so it is textural and literally soft on the eye and feet. Then, with your bed and furnishings around the walls, you can "break" the join between floor and wall and paint your teals or greens... a soft green that veers more to olive than lime could work, as could a soft teal... hard to say without photos......See MoreAlexandra Nicole Newton
