Our lake cottage

The cottage has a full basement but no stairs from inside the house. How much floor space do I need to put in a set of stairs even spirals?

Your answer will depend on the state in which you live and what residential code has been adopted there. Most states follow the International Building Code or IBC and in addition each state may have adopted their own changes or modifications to this code. My strong recommendation is to contact a knowledgeable local architect to determine the minimum riser heights, tread depths, stair width, required landings, headroom, etc.

I really like pale grayish sage with white. Also a cool greenish aqua for a soothing look to the bath. White or gray Corian counter. If it's a low-use bath such as a powder room, white marble would be lovely for the counter. Rug or mat on the floor with a nice pattern to hide spills, dog hair, etc. If you have a window, lovely drapes, custom shade or match-stick blinds would help warm the space. Finally, if you have a bathtub, a custom shower curtain will really dress up the space and add character/warmth. HI -- Great windows !! Full white drapes right across the whole window wall , full length ceiling to floor and wall to wall . Long low 3 or 4 seat sofa or square sectional in white (leather or fabric ?) and a swivel chair or two in black (leather or fabric ?) Have the sofa and chair-s in either material just not both the same . A long reclaimed /distressed wood dining room table -- you need the wood for a bit of warmth in the room. Modern white and chrome chairs and maybe two funky statement chairs for each end of the table.Too cold and flat looking to have total black and white. An area rug for living room area -no rug under dining room table. The area rug could be one with a salt and pepper texture or a chevron pattern or similar . Then silver accents as in side table bases with glass tops and lamps . Then some big colorful modern art.

Work with a landscape designer/architect. Likely, some sort of retained, back filled walls will be necessary to create an area large enough to place a table with chairs & umbrella. If you entertain multiple generations, keep your patio to a single level. I would suggest integrating planting areas within the patio area, to introduce color & eventually partial shade. Designing a pergola into this composition would be a nice addition to. Get the blessings of any governing/HOA body that you need approvals from, which your design professional of choice should be able to facilitate for you. Happy Houzzing!

You already have your accent colour as your sofa pillows (log roll pillows). I would take one of them shopping with me to get a rug that has that colour in it. It doesn't need to be a lot of that colour (I love the idea of burgandy rug here...but it might be too much with your monotone scheme). You can find a large rug that incorporates that red/raspberry in it so that you have a colour that is now your accent.
