Need help with my balcony!
Comments (19)You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example)....See MoreReno - what are the steps?
Comments (6)First thing you need to understand is the scope of the project and what your abilities and experience will cover. Do you have any experience managing a construction project? Have you ever scheduled a construction project? Have you drawn up a trades (i.e. framing, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, etc., etc..) contract? Have you ever dealt with the permitting office in pulling permits? Have you ever inspected any construction for quality and compliance to the design documents? Have you ever dealt with inspections or construction deficiencies and had to resolve them with the sub-contractors? If you can't answer yes to all these questions, then you're venturing into a field you know little or nothing about. Any mistakes or stumbles you make in your learning curve are most likely going to be costly in both time and your budget. There are some projects that are DIY level.......there are some that would best be left to those of us already having the background and experience. Let me give you an example. I have an oak tree beside the house I'm renovating. It sits about 12' from the end of the house and has at least a 30' radius drip line which means it extends out over the roof of the house. Having spent a number of years of my young life on a ranch and farm, I know how to drop trees. I know how to operate a chain saw safely without loosing a limb or making a quick trip to the ER. From years in the construction / design field, I know how to operate a high lift ......... but even I know that the task of removing this tree is beyond my level in spite of my willingness and wish to save the $3500 I've been quoted. There are some things best left to the pros. Besides, If I drop a 14" diameter limb on the roof, I would never hear the end of it from my wife. Based solely on the questions you asked, I would highly recommend that you hire an Architect to help you with the design and your budget. Then I would find a well recommended GC to do the job......I'm betting you'll make the most of your limited budget going this route....See MoreIs renovation more stress than it is worth?
Comments (4)Well, I've been renovating this house for now on 12 years on and off, and the stress at times can be real tough. Most of it is due to the person who is helping me renovate. Their lack of communication skills and doing what they think I want rather than sticking to the budget and/or plan is a bone of contention. So, I think it can be a stressful situation but not if you clearly have someone working with you not against you all the time! (The person has Asperger's and it's really hard to keep him on task and not tangent off....sigh.....getting there though!) Ask ask and ask around, check reviews online, ask to look at their work of the tradies, if you are going to use them. Plumbers, plasterers will often give you a reduced rate if you do some of the leg work yourself, like prep walls, or get all the pipes etc together. Have a clear understanding where you are going and have a time frame and try to stick to it. DO NOT start renos in late summer when the weather is still good, the weeks run away real fast and soon it is dark and changeable and the project not finished!...See More3D Metallic Epoxy Resin Floor
Comments (22)Hi everyone, My basement got some water after the recent storms in our area. We had vinyl planks flooring and had to pull all of it out, damaging most of it in the process. We are certainly not looking into putting flooring down again, and we are considering epoxy flooring. I want to ask here your opinions, experience, and pros and cons of polished concrete floors Atlanta. Ideally, we would prefer to do it ourselves as the cost to hire out appears to be astronomical. We saw a company called Everlast Epoxy and wonder if anyone here knows about them and their product. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions....See Moreminjeeah
