Please excuse me for my ignorance. What is the purpose of these boxes which look like wooden cubes?

Interesting question. They’re design elements so to speak. They are the main component in solving the visual problem of providing a pleasing way to display a tv. Our solution was to include the tv as part of a large sculptural pattern of almost black (darkly stained vertical grained oak) boxes. As a counter point their rhythm across the wall is unexpectedly broken by the insertion of another box - the flat screen tv. The light coming from the boxes adds visual interest and mimics the light coming from the tv. All this is anchored by a low long shelf; floating off the floor with light also glowing from below. - Thanks for the question- Stan

I have to say that well made Roman Shades are not cheap, they are the higher end of the market. Secondly the thing to consider is that they are an all or nothing product, they are either open or closed. What part of the country do you live in? What direction do the windows face, and how often are those doors used? Drapery that can not be moved completely out of the way will get caught in the doors all the time, so while I hate taking out a window for any reason, removing it might make sense as it seems rather redundant. Don't do any type of venetian if this door is used a lot, and if you do, make sure you do an outside mount, allowing for the stack to go above the frame of the doors when they are open. I suggest that you look into Hunter Douglas Polysatin Shutters, they are great on french doors, and the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella Vertiglide is perfect on doors, they also come as a duo light, meaning you can put two blinds into one product - so a sheer and an opaque or semi-opaque product. Just some thoughts to consider.

Hi Tammy, these planter boxes are pretty common these days and we've covered lots of them for homeowners staying in places like The Minton and The Palette. Our proposed solution is to build a stainless steel structure with industrial-grade walkway grating to span the depression in the balcony. This solution ensures a lifespan of 10 years and beyond. Then, we give homeowners the option of covering the area with artificial grass or wooden decking. I'm not sure about your balcony, but most balconies do get rainwater falling on it. The only way to truly cat proof a house is to not have a cat / kitten, so you need to get rid of some of your anxiety and be prepared to have a bit of damage e.g. they may claw your couches etc. Easiest tip is to never have net curtains as they will be the first to go. Some cats will also use bean bags as toilets because they make the same type of noise and feeling of kitty litter so be prepared for that. I think you should consider getting an older cat. One from a rescue centre. Set it up with a lovely bed in the sun, allow it to see outside, have one if not two kitty litter boxes in the house and keep them clean.
