House Decor/Keeping Advice from Pet Owners??

Can any pet owners share some tips on how they keep their house neat and the fur-flying down the a minimum?
We recently got a cat - we love him but the fur balls around the house is crazy. Also his toys are all over our house now. We used to have a tidy house, nicely done up and since the kitten's arrival, everything's everywhere - and they don;t go with our home decor at all!!
Would love to hear some tips on how you guys keep your cats/dogs toys & accessories easily accessible to your pets yet without clashing with your homes' decor.
