Comments (16)Thanks, lefty47. This is an older home, and just as One Plan guessed it is a soil stack from the upstairs bathroom. You are probably right that the cost of a custom solution may outweigh the benefits. Another idea I had, along the lines of the worktop bin suggested by One Plan, is a recessed spatula and long-handled utensil holder. I found out that Lee Valley sells motorized tv lift kits like the one used in the video above. It would be a matter of getting the contractor to build the box to go on the lift. I'm still a bit hung up on the idea, though it probably falls into your cost-outweighs-benefit category! I may bring this photo around with me when interviewing prospective contractors, just to see how they answer!...See MoreHeadlights all foggy

Having tried toothpaste and @tarotlova's suggestion of a cut & polish paste, I eventually went with @LouieT's idea and found a 3M branded 3-part process involving a power drill to spin a range of circular sandpapers and sponges with a paste applied to the latter. It really did go well, though took at least an hour on each light. It looks like this and cost around $50 Video Instructions where handy too... Comments (19)I very much agree with what Beverly said regarding adding shutters to your home. You don't have the space on either side of the windows to accommodate appropriately sized shutters. Awnings would definitely be an option. Since you're in the Caribbean, you can add color by using a brightly striped awning. One shutter option that you could consider would be a Bahama Shutter. The green (they come in different colours, too, if you'd like to be psychedelic) adds a lively pop of colour to a blah space, and they're designed in easy-to-install tile-style units that have some built-in drainage for minimal maintenance. Absolut Outdoors and Green Turf can tell you more :) And I'd hang an outdoor art piece or a screen for air plants on that blank wall, too, to enliven your balcony....See More

8 years agoHello! We're counting the days to officially launching Houzz Singapore, watch this space for the announcement.
I'm Chiquit, Houzz SG editor, and I'm so excited to be putting together local content that showcases the best of Singapore design and creativity, and serves the unique needs of our Houzzers (did someone say small spaces and urban gardens?) (also: soon-to-be-homeowner Martin Tan, we read you, and will get working on that story that you'll be able to read when Houzz SG goes online).
I've already seen familiar names and faces/logos as I was reading through this thread โ shoutout to industry friends I've made during my time at Home & Decor and Lookbox Living, and writing for The Peak-Domain and Cubes, magazines. I look forward to working with you, and new Pros, on Houzz SG.
Joining the international tech wonder that is Houzz is going to allow us to reach a bigger audience in a more timely manner. Of course Houzz SG will still feature all of the best international ideabooks and photos. As we add our own local flavour, this content will then go back out to Houzz internationally. How cool is that?

PRO8 years agoHi All, my name is Jason Chuck and I'm the Managing Director for Houzz in Asia and helping to build up our Singaporean team. It's wonderful to see such an active and thriving community even before we officially launch our .com.sg site!
My mother was an Interior Designer and my father was a builder, although my Mom was probably the better project manager of the two :D. Thus I grew up constantly on the construction site, building form work and pouring concrete, laying tiles and cutting bricks all through school holidays. I went to school in Singapore for a period, living close to Holland Village but we are now based in Sydney.
As for my personal Houzz, I spent most of 2013 renovating a 100yr old worker's cottage which we completed a few months after welcoming our new baby boy into this world. I found my architect and many inspirational ideas on Houzz but was also amazed how many people I met in the forums that were also renovating while expecting!
