Square Pillar in the center of a living room
Comments (3)Mirrors to make it dissapear. Red paint to make it a feature. With a television or a screen so you have too smaller rooms. With a low surrond table/benches so that it is a centrepiece. With columns/stripes elsewhere in the room so that they repeat the theme it creates. With the wall colour as if it is a non issue. With a chainsaw so it goes way. With outward-facing lights so it is too glary to look at any way. With same curtains that are acoss the windows so that it is camoflaged and looks less substantial. With one of those weird-sounding-named perspective pictures so that you can enjoy looking "through" it from one or more particular places. As a Greek column so that you can convey that you undertand and participate in ironic postmodern architecture. By scraping half of the covering off and adding roofing material and drainage to the other side so that you can tell your friends that you particpate in deconstructive architecture. Surround it with an aquarium. Surround it with an indoor garden jungle. String a hammock or two off it so you can say, "man we were so lucky to have this coumn here so we could hang our hammocks and still be able to use all the room!" With a same-strength steel coumn that is just as strong. Replace it with a beam from one side to the other so that it is no longer structurally required. Run a wall up to it. Or, if someone asks you, "how can you decorate a square pillar or column in the middle of a living room?", you can say "um, it seemed like a good idea at the time, do you think that I shouldn't have?"...See MoreHow to Modernise & Update Front Aspect Design
Comments (5)I agree with Carolyn - a new coat of paint can make a world of difference. There's really not too much about the house that 'screams' a certain decade - so you're luckier than lots of us. I hate that teracotta colour on the gable ends personally, and I think that would be good to paint out. I would consider painting al the bits that are currently white a darker more serious colour (grey, taupe etc) and then paint the trim and the entry ceiling white. Also consider painting the roof - as it is a big element and teracotta tile colour doesn't always work with your colour scheme. If you want to make some more permanent changes, you could consider filling in the gable roof lines so they become box gables - and I agree with Carolyn that the entrance roof looks like it is missing a column on the left side....See MoreHow can I hide an existing column in the kitchen
Comments (5)You could use the column for something useful like hanging utensils or cooking tools if you have the height or a towel rack or if you want to just hide it you could put fairy lights on/around it to give a homely feel.my personal opinion would be if there is a ledge you should get some vintage alcohol bottles and put them there as decoration and it works nice in most households.if no ledge just get a wine rack and screw it to the column...See MoreHow can I unify the look in my living room?
Comments (4)The new look is more white with wooden furniture and straight edges. For living room, clear white table and add more modern modern accessories in metal. The pink needs to be replaced with a brown or a mustard yellow cover(to make it stand out but yet within a warm tone). Beige sofa can have 2 cushions on each corner to neaten up. Cushion covers can be black and white modern patterns and maybe a small size in mustard yellow matching accent chair. Add a smart looking black and white rug geometric pattern rug...See MoreRandall Lee's Flooring America
