Can I get some advice on painting an adjacent wall the same chalkboard black?

I originally had a wall done with chalkboard paint for friends to draw on but I've shifted the TV console in front to expand the living area of my apartment.

I really like it as I can regularly change the backdrop but its troublesome for friends to add their own work.

My concern on painting the adjacent wall black as well is that it might suck up a lot of light the white wall currently reflects.

With the help of photoshop (and anyone) I can sorta compare, I'm just wondering if its not recommended I do what I'm about to do.

Any help? Thanks.

I like the look of more chalkboard; I think it makes the space look bigger, and the chalkboard more integrated and inviting. If it feels dark, could you add a sconce or other lighting?

I agree with Sheila. I like the look of more chalkboard wall, but there is a lighting issue. If this is to showcase friends' artwork, messages, etc, how about putting some type of lighting on the floor -angled up at the wall? (like you would do with floodlights) Since it is flat chalkboard paint, glare shouldn't be an issue, & it will highlight the art on the wall. Just a thought!

I do not see the wall in the picture. I think the shades of grey on the floor and tile planter tile looks great. You might consider a light version of those. It really depends on the amount of light you have in the room.

What are the dimensions? If you are afraid space will be too tight, you could skip the table and just do a grand lounge area: start with a 4 to 5 ft diameter round or square coffee table, then surround that with a U shaped sectional.

I take it this isn't your bathroom. The glass could be handmade lead light which means bespoke by someone who makes lead light windows or it could be a transfer applied to a plain glass window. Check on ebay or online sticker/transfer stores for similar. I've never seen a piece like that in Australia so I'm thinking this might be an American antique. It's not normal to put an expensive antique piece in a bathroom and if you did it would be best in a bathroom that only has minimal use. And you would want to have a lot of good exhaust extraction to get rid of moisture. If you picked up one of those repro Indonesian mahogany pieces you would be spending a lot less money and might regard the piece as expendable. You can buy wood hardening sprays that resist moisture from the hardware store and spray the carcass (all the unstained pieces inside) with this stuff to resist moisture. You'd still need a good exhaust system however and keep the room well aired.

Personally, I hate accent walls - if it's good enough for one wall, it's good enough for all of them.

Just keep your other furnishings light in color and add plenty of lighting.

why not paint the adjacent wall in chalkboard for your friends messages, and repaint the wall behind the tv in a lighter colour?
