Match hardwood floors on stairs to existing floor?

I'd like to replace the carpeting on the stairs in my townhouse with hardwood. The main floor already has an engineered cherry hardwood that I dislike but don't want to replace or refinish if possible. Would it look strange to have a different hardwood on the stairs (I'd love to do a lighter bamboo floor)? My suspicion is that it would. Otherwise, I suppose I would match the cherry as best as I can and use it throughout the entire house (yuck). Pictures are of where the staircases are visible from the main floor.
