Need help with my living room

I'm after suggestions on how best to arrange seating in this room.

two openings, window and fireplace seem a bit restricting.

My first thought is it is too cluttered and some space is needed, so maybe better to remove some items like that Chest or even the Table just to create space

I would remove white table and chair as these don't seem to blend into your room with the lovely fireplace, replace table with a noughi timber and glass as this is more in keeping with your couch and black chair, you could maybe try the chest as a coffee table, although could be a little high, a floor lamp nesr black chair, some cushions to pick up colours from your rug would look lovely, maybe klim cushions would add a gorgeous texture, your floorboards and fireplace are lovely.

Hi Trishtham, you can consider to have a see through TV feature wall or a glass panel wall with lower part as your TV console to create the location for TV and space for wall outside bedroom 2 as the location for sofa. If You want a spacious living room space, can even consider to extend the study room wall to push the TV feature further towards dining area.

Photos didn't attach. Mint is a horrible colour (IMHO) and I have it in spades in my rental. I've ignored it and accented the way I want. It seems to have calmed down since I started using bold colours like red (rugs) and orange (painted cafe street scene). The light in my place is quite warm...so I've been having fun by ignoring the mint. Colours like burnt sienna and many forms of orange seem to work well with mint. Photos would help.

i would take out white chair and table like suggested above and use the chest as a coffee table by placing a tray ontop for a flat surface.

I agree with everything the posters above say. They have some pieces of kiilim on special at Ikea at the moment which could make great cushions if you sew. The room has some lovely features.

Yes, there are too many furniture and things for a smallish room.

Are you willing to part with some of them? Do you need that many sitting for a start? The white chair looks out of place.

Could you draw a floor plan? it would help us help you.

Using the chest as a coffee table could work, and then put the tv console in its place and the black chair where the tv is, so at least you can get into the room without having to go around it!

Agree with too much furniture and black and white do not work well together Wall mounting tv and getting rid of console will give you more room to work with

Too many chairs the black recliner or the white chair should be removed. The coffee table takes up the entire room either go without a coffee table all together and just have small tables for coffee's beside the couch or go for a much smaller glass table - glass will become invisible - giving the illusion of more space. Take the chair(s) and coffee table out of the room and then see what you think - it will certainly open up the space.

Thanks so much. I have taken the white chair out, put the coffee table up for sale, changed the cushions and moved the chest, looking better already!

Starting to look better, I'd swap black chair with tv and maybe put TV on chest..

Not sure I'm worried its a bit high and I have always loved the Noguhci coffee table--replica of course! The chest may work for the TV however I do use it for storage so will need to have a think about it.

Been away just saw this I agree with others remove round coffee table replace with a not too large rectangular glass.

Wall hang tv, (my choice above fireplace) remove tv console (u could use a low shelf of book case for DVD etc. ) replace with chest.

Another option if it fits: Relocate left bookcase to where black recliner is & put recliner in that corner with floor lamp maybe behind it. The square box coffee tbl also looks out of place.

Also Could one of door openings be filled in if there is an alternative access out of the room to the right of fire place. Love the fire place & floors.

Entirely agree with Up the Creek Retreat re coffee table, exchanging bookcase for the recliner, and perhaps removing the little square box etc. Perhaps feature the artwork now above the chest on the opposite wall, and tie in those colours in stronger tones with throws and/or new plump cushions.

Thanks so much for the comments, I have sold the coffee table and the space looks so much better without it. I'm not sure about moving bookcase as there are two that sit either side of the window. Do you think it will look odd if one is on a different wall?
