Huge Patio needs some interest

We just purchased a home in the desert on a golf course. It has a huge patio with the pool along one side and a fountain and fire pit at the back. This leaves a huge patio area which is very tedious and which I would like to bring some interest to. We don't need any more shade as we have two very large covered patios with furniture in those areas. Looking for suggestions and ideas which would work in the dessert summer as well as winter. I love Dann Foley outdoor furniture...I would put a large sectional or oversized seitting area to enjoy entertaining under the stars with oversized zinc pots filled with heat tolerant trees to bring some life to that large space! add some solar globes for lighting..

A large kinetic sculpture would anchor the area well, and feel like it was intentionally scaled to be large. Sculpture on a pedestal would set it up well as art. Add lighting to enhance it. The piece need not be dead center unless it feels like the right placement for the piece you select.

Then with the patio divided to smaller areas consider adding seating and activity centers like a bar, outdoor movie area, games like darts/pool table/bocci ball, etc.

You can check out the outdoor floor tiles like the Scala (Google Snap and Go tile) which are easy to piece additionally on the ground for a new look. ;) I saw another brand here, http://list.qoo10.sg/item/OUTDOOR-TIMBER-FLOOR-TILE-SINGAPORE-SELLER-100-AUTHENTIC-BEAUTIFUL/482453309 (not sure where this brand is from but they all work the same). They even have faux grass, stones as well as timber. Definitely easy to DIY, and you can combine different surfaces together if you want (stones and wood combo for example).

Hi Few points: 1. It's not an independent residential apartment. It is a flat in a 25storey block 2. I have attached the floor plan for reference. The entrance is not too huge. 3. It's good to know that you guys have liked the Bathroom & kitchen design. The tiling work is in progress and it has come out well. I will take few snaps and post 4. When I say resort look - I understand and mean a simplistic natural looking design. More towards wood, nature, green, matt finish etc... Hope i am not confusing anyone here 5. Do you think the bathroom & kitchen design gels with what I mean by resort look. 6. The foyer area is a small (not too big) entrance. It's like a passage as you can see in the pics I posted earlier. When you enter you don't see the entire living room rather you see the wall (kitchen wall), where we intend to keep our dining table. Some thoughts on designing that wall is also requested Thanks!

I think the color of the wall is quite nice. Speaking about accent on the wall I could recommend a large print on aluminum which does not require framing. work out the wall space you want to cover, measure this on the floor. then start laying out our design within the space on the floor to create your design. There has to be lines running through the collage so there is a method to the madness- we don't want a messy looking arrangement, there must be a flow. You can line up the matts with outside edge of other frames etc. Layout all of your pics on the floor and mix up the frame styles and sizes amongst your layout. Take photos of your layout and then start hanging. My tip is don't start hanging until you have your plan 100% !!! lots of neck stretches too! i recently put together this collage and need a neck massage afterwards ;-)

I has the same thought, a large sculpture with an elongated platform that fits the space. Also consider modern pop art or artistically placed clusters of objects (such as signposts etc).

Thank you for these ideas. Hadn't thought of a sculpture. I don't want to block the view from the house so I wouldn't want anything too massive. Have also thought of pots, but then again without blocking the view they would have to be low, with low plants.
