Mixing different patterns
I have just had new stair carpet laid, i have very plain walls but desperately want to inject colur into one wall..it will be as you enter front door and to right of stairs, i have carpet to stairs, laminate to hall, so feature wall will nit be directly next to carpet....i Also dont mina a bit different, but is this too much..? phew!!!

Comments (6)I think if you select a wall color that is too well coordinated to the tile, it will only bring out the vibrant pattern in the tile. So pick colors you like. Let your personal style and the vibe of the rooms dictate the colors. Your walls, furnishings and accessories will take center stage so you won't really notice the tile. Comments (13)I take it this isn't your bathroom. The glass could be handmade lead light which means bespoke by someone who makes lead light windows or it could be a transfer applied to a plain glass window. Check on ebay or online sticker/transfer stores for similar. I've never seen a piece like that in Australia so I'm thinking this might be an American antique. It's not normal to put an expensive antique piece in a bathroom and if you did it would be best in a bathroom that only has minimal use. And you would want to have a lot of good exhaust extraction to get rid of moisture. If you picked up one of those repro Indonesian mahogany pieces you would be spending a lot less money and might regard the piece as expendable. You can buy wood hardening sprays that resist moisture from the hardware store and spray the carcass (all the unstained pieces inside) with this stuff to resist moisture. Comments (5)you can mainly go for Scandinavian and the touch of Singapore can be through arts, accent pieces...say cushions with peranakan tiles, etc.. It also depends on how big your space is. 6 years agoI tried to do a little mock up for you to show the wall paper and the carpeted stairs. The tool is not friendly but this gives you some idea of the two patterns together and I superimposed a mirror. If you do the wallpaper, I think I would do the wood trim on the inside of the stairs nearest the carpet in the pale sage green from the wallpaper. That would provide a bridge between the wallpaper and the carpeting. Perhaps a aged gold mirror might work well too. Just depends on your vision.

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoWith your rustic looking floors and the Tartan (which I really like), I would use a less delicate/formal wallpaper and keeping it fairly simple will make the foyer feel larger and then you could add a natural fiber runner, which would be really attractive. It may be the photo, but if your railing and spindles are cream, I would go with a crisp white, to bring a bit of crispness. If it were me though, I would skip wallpaper, lighten your paint color which will make your foyer feel larger and brighter and add interest by your accessories, art, a mirror. Ignore me if I'm completely off your design ideas. Good luck.

6 years agoI would be inclined to go with grasscloth wallpaper, I like the rich brown. Then add some art. I admire your courage in the tartan, looks great. Tartan and toile wallpaper is popular, to me I like the grasscloth

Hi again, yes a couple more pics but there isnt much more to it...i need radiator covered, also the pics etc i have for walls need replacing as they dnt tie in. The wall to right is only place i will put paper, bit paintwork to touch up..got few ideas, jyst need to settle on on paper first. Il kerp u updated! Thank you!

6 years agoThis Schumacher wallpaper would be very nice....Colors work well with your carpet....not sure on pattern size compared to your carpet print but worth looking at...print should be larger or smaller than pattern in carpet to make this work.

6 years agoI totally understand wanting that shabby Chic look but plaid usually is not associated with Shabby Chic decor or dark colors...everything that you are choosing is very traditional English style....I think adding a more modern more pattern would give a more eclectic style and keep it from looking old....maybe you are wanting a more eclectic bohemian look..??? Maybe start looking at very dark wallpapers with large patterens??
I don't know just talking out loud trying to understand what look you are really trying to accomplish...do you have any inspiration images you like?

Hi home interiors..yes i know what you mean, im maybe not shabby chick...but i think i just have ecletic taste as such....this type of thing i like... i love colur, pattern, texture..shapes..i just like what i like i guess...i would probably be a nightmare for a designer!!

6 years agoYes Dee I kinda thought that was your style...you need to look for much deeper bolder larger patterns..patterns that have a mod/modern or more eclectic style..
...or paint the walls a deep teal and add colorful art framed in gold hanging in the entry..
