Are ogee edges out of style now too?

I was wondering if ogee edges are out of favor now too. It seems as if almost everything is a flat edge.

What application are you using this edge on? Counter or Trim work?

Assuming you are referring to a countertop it would depend on the design of the house and the overall design of the space you are adding it to. I suggest that in some cases it could work such as seen here in this kitchen as they have maintained the integrity of the overall space.

It works here in this gorgeous kitchen design. The cabinets have beautiful crown, the windows have a grand shape, and you can see a bit of the tray ceiling detail. As well, the adjacent living space it works with the beautiful trimwork.

If the space is rather simple, it is a detail that may end up looking somewhat dated.

I feel the choice of counter colour can help pull this look off such as the bright white in the photo above.

I still see them go out the door, but not near as much as an eased edge. Classic materials like a marble island with an ogee and perimeter in a simple color with eased edge is common here.

I think it also depends on your location :)

Are you saying that cooking next to the chute would gross you out even if its covered? Andd to use it for its intended purpose? In the first picture, it looks like the stove is directly underneath the chute, but I can see in other pics that it is not. I think it is far enough away. If everything is bagged properly, it shouldn't be that bad. You will have to check on local code regarding having the stove next to the window. Code may make your decision for you. People usually just put shorter cabinets above that type of range hood. I would recommend doing so because you need all the storage you can get. The hood--being different from the bank of cabinets--will provide relief to the eye. With cabinets above, it'll still feel balanced. And, as for covering the chute, do you want to cover it and restrict access or do you still need to use it for its intended purpose and just want to camouflage it? To help the room feel pleasant, cheery, and light, I recommend using a glass tile. Even though it's applied to a wall, the translucency still shows and evokes a sense of the adjectives above. I think it would help keep things light. Consider a slightly higher toe-kick underneath the lower cabinets. It helps to create a lighter-footed feeling. You could also consider cabinets that have furniture style feet. for a more open feeling. Your kitchen seems like an ideal room to use modern, lacquered cabinets. I don't know if you like the super-modern look, but I think it could be nice. Maybe just for the uppers. Use a medium-to-light toned wood on the bottom. A limestone floor might be nice. Or you can do wood or laminate. You could go with dark or light. I think it's mostly about preference.

I opened my earlier post to edit the paint name in case you ever want to paint non-tufted, no-nap fabric. Unfortunately, my cat Linguine loves the binging and bonging sounds of the computer when he stands on the keyboard. Not helpful. It disappeared so... here is the name: Simply Spray Fabric Paint for Upholstery. (They have your charcoal gray) It did not make the fabric crunchy, stiff or weird. Nobody wants crunchy, stiff, or weird :-) Again, I would not paint the fabric on your gorgeous bed but I would change the wood color. The black edge and empty white room are the reasons it looks heavy. If you paint the black, I would suggest using an artist brush on the edge that meets the fabric even with fabric covered. House or painter's brushes are too wide for good control in that tight space. They are not as flexible as artists brushes nor as small. The Paris bed I mentioned was gray velvet and soft matte metallic gold wood. Soft, romantic, dreamy and transporting to a world of Princesses and Kings. If you keep the purple, I vote for gold or silver wood but NOT high gloss.

I would get rid of that pendant. Here's one link to industrial pendant lights http://www.houzz.com/industrial-pendants Pick a light that you like and show it to your landlord. I bet she/he will say yes to your suggestion since pendant lights can easily be changed. In fact, if there's already a really secure junction box there already i bet they may even go with a ceiling fan light combo if that's what you really want

I think ogee is fussy and eased lets the counter be the star. I have only seen ogee on islands, and even then less often than 5 years ago.

When we went to the design center and were told to pick an edge for our granite I just picked the bullnose. I liked how it was round without a hard edge. We had a bullnose edge cultured marble counter in the bathroom of our last house and really liked it so I thought it would look good. When I was preparing to select my granite and looking at all kinds of pictures online, I noticed that everything was flat and I actually really liked it. I had to google specifically to find bullnose granite pictures and I didn't like them. I thought it looked dated and kind of cheap. I still think it looks good in a bathroom with a cultured marble counter, but not with granite. Thankfully I was able to switch. Look at pictures online. If you still really like the ogee and it's what you think is beautiful and will go with your space, then get it, especially if you don't plan on moving. I would say it also depends on what granite or marble you're getting. I think it can look really good on something like carrera but wouldn't look good on absolute black. They aren't the same style.

We fairly frequently will make a table with the ogee edge. It can be a bit more of the traditional look. It depends on what style you're going for.

I don’t know if it’s out of style, but I certainly see less “fussy” looking edges being used more often now. Personally I never cared for the ogee edges, and was very happy that my fabricator offered a bookend type of edge. Much simpler and prettier in my opinion.

I think it's the cutouts, bump outs, and curves that sometimes accompany an ogee edge I'm no longer fond of... I can see myself bumping my hip or catching a loose garment on those, particularly with an ogee edge. Moving around a bump out seems perturbing too.

Our reno has me a bit unnerved as we've got french (not country french as I once described) and old world furnishings throughout... currently our old kitchen is so disconnected from the rest of our home it's jarring. To move toward open concept (as is our newly planned layout) we need to keep some continuity without looking overly heavy - our home is not big, and I want to lighten things up but keep with the look I've grown to love, despite trends as they move forward - and backward. I've considered an ogee edge just for continuity, but we're a long way off from a final decision. Having said that, I prefer a nice bullnose, but again, there's the disconnect I'm concerned about. We'll see as we move forward with our reno...

I agree that it depends on the overall style of the bathroom or kitchen where it’s being installed. I personally see much more Eased Edges nowadays. Clean, goes classic to modern & pretty much anything in between.

Are ogee edges out of style now too?
