We recently took a half story off our house and added a full second story. We resided the house and redid the front vestibule. This spring we will add landscaping with shrubs and flowers. What can we do to add some personality? Would shutters look good on all front windows? Should shutters on smaller lower level windows be the same size as upper large window? Note there isn’t much room on lower windows for wide shutters. Any color suggestions for the shutters? How would white window boxes look on lower level windows? Planning to keep the front entry white. Would another color look better? I appreciate any help!

Comments (14)Hi Fred, Thanks for the want of the precise measurements. The U shape area in my kitchen is 64" - 104 - 99" (left - centre - right). Height of the kitchen area is 107". The wall with the fridge has total length of 99" Fridge is 32" wide, 29" deep, 73" high (I bought this fridge on a good bargain but realized it was slightly oversized in this kitchen area, but got to live with it now) The wall beside the fridge is 23" deep I know some gap has to be left between this wall, the fridge and the wall mounted/countertop cabinets for ventilation I guess. So I'd say the cabinets on this wall will have a length of only 63"/64"? The microwave is 18.5 wide, 13" deep, 10.5" high The oven is 24" wide, 24" deep, 24" high. The wall next to the fridge which will have this feature cabinet 42" wide, 110" high which is next to the main door. Also, what mood do you want to create for your whole house/each room? For instance, yellows are uplifting and cheery while greens are usually restful. Browse online for 'paint colour ideas' and save a collection of photos that appeal to you. You're likely to find great decor ideas at the same time! With that particular part of the house pictured above though, my advice is to make the most of the precious daylight coming through that window (there's just never enough sunlight in my flat! Comments (18)Hi, I agree with Gary, do a hotel setting to make it more appealing. Here’s an idea. Remove the partition, move the closet down and add a big slider freeing up the space for a spacious bedroom with lounge seating/dining by the window. 6 years agoTo my eye, the area above the second floor windows is wide open and needs to be grounded with brackets or corbels or maybe just a contrasting paint color up in the eve. Depending on your budget, take inspiration from any of the exterior photos when you search for Craftsman exteriors on Houzz. Here are just a few ideas. Good luck!
