What carpet to use and a coffee table recommendation

I just had hardwood floors installed and am deciding on a floor carpet. What works better the light one or coloured one. Also, does this artwork work in this room. Thanks for your recommendations.

I agree judy that the rug is too small for the space. I would layer your rug over a much larger seagrass rug with neutral binding that anchors the room.

I prefer the lighter carpet. I Would also try to find one big picture to go over the couch OR two that truly match each other. I love both pictures, just not together.

Beautiful art wall and table! I'd suggest a medium honey-colored stain. Given the likely heavy usage, the table top is one of the few places I'd suggest a polyurethane finish. Legs can be finished with e.g. tung oil as it is very easy to use and should be OK in the lower use area.

you painted that? it's stunning! you can do a lot with just a rug. I have 2 toddlers 2.5 yrs old and 19 months old. and I used a low pile indoor/outdoor rug from Walmart. it was like 40$ for a 5x8. it was soooooo easy to clean even when it was blackberry stains! if you really don't want a to buy a rug there are a ton of DIY area rugs on pintrest where you take a cloth and tape it to a non slip pad, then toss it in the wash! brilliant right? you can definitely use 2 big pillows, the have a mustardy/yellow one at ikea (you can wash the covers and switch them too) and maybe a couple small accent pillows. but LOVING the painting...and I wish it was mine..K bye lol! :)

I would consider a larger area rug. I like the darker color, it balances the red from the dining room. I also would recommend that you do one large piece of artwork above the sofa. Something more proportional to the wall size. I would also look for larger based lamps on the tables, maybe even add beaded or tasseled trim to the bottom of the shades to add a little detail to the room. I like the recommendation above for the coffee table. I love the two side chairs and the accent pillows. Drapery Panels on the windows would really finish off the room and add interest. Good job.

After staring at the pictures... I do like the darker rug as well... especially after the posted above pointed out the dining room!

Your rugs are too small, they're "floating" between furnishings instead of feeling like they tie furnishings together. But the traditional style of the first and third look lovely with your traditional pieces, so you're on the right track.

I forgot to add some of my dining room. In keeping with the colour do you think I should use the darker coloured one instead. What would you recommend for pillows if I used the coloured one.

Much Better but bigger would look even better I think. Is this the same rug as the lighter one from above? If so my first instinct was correct. I like the lighter one... but I'm a light and bright person ;)

Depends on the style of the room. Victorian: blue Cozy and warm: #2 not the first one at all.

If you go with the last one I would say that one is good. It would look great if you got a lighter couch.

Neither in regard to the size. I think it is too small. I know you want to show your new floors, but….

A few feet more on all sides would be better.
I also like the style of this coffee table for your room.

In the dining room a rug must be at least 4 feet wider and longer than the table top to allow for chair scoot and sit space.Try the dining rug in the entry to introduce color right away.
