what type of tiles is best for bathroom floors.?stone or marble?
Comments (6)Marble are non-porous thus it would cause etching and corrosion. Besides that, marble are high maintenance materials. Marble requires proper care and maintenance. Acid should never be used on marble as it shall loose its shine. Marble should be regularly polished over a period of time to give it a new look. If proper precautions are not taken the marble becomes yellowish in colour. Italian marble is usually very soft and prone to cracks. Proper resins have to be used to make the surface strong and solid and avoid further cracks. Proper sealants should be used in marble flooring as the marble is highly porous and prone to staining. It absorbs stains very quickly especially kitchen stains hence are not appropriate for kitchen counter tops. Quartz would be a better choice as quartz are non porous. You can read more about the benefits of quartz here. If you like the marble look you may view the marble series from different brands from our quartz catalogue. Comments (7)It looks as if you have something crumbling behind the tiles. It could be the porcelain or the wall. This once happened to me. I paid for a professional to insert a gas fire into the fire breast. Consistently we had what looked like rubble falling down the chimney. No one knew what it was and we were baffled. Then one day we had the chimney swept by an amazing chimney sweep who informed us the wall prep behind the fireplace hadn't been done properly and what was falling down was the brick and rubble which was behind and had not been cleared properly. He said it wasn't a big deal and not dangerous so we left it, although it was an inconvenience having to clean it up every day particularly in bad weather. I would advise asking a tiler to come and have a look. Maybe your bathroom tiles need sealing, maybe water is getting in. If the tiler doesn't know ask a surveyor, he may not have the answer but he will know which trade to point you in the direction of. It could simply be a case of the walls not being prepped properly before the tiles were put up. Any which way, if a large tile which could potentially fall off a wall it needs to be checked because if it landed on you it could do serious damage or cause further tile damage which would make the job of rectifying more expensive....See MoreNeed help to update bathroom
Comments (8)if you lighten the cabinets etc, then the stone will appear more prominent. if that is what you want, that is fine. I sensed that you did not like the current counter. I would contact a marble/granite installer to see if they think that the cracks can be filled and polished out. it is pretty common to do this on new installations if it is feasible. they may try to charge you as as much as you would spend on a fabricating a counter out of a new slab if they did not do the original installation....See MoreWardrobe and bathroom together
Comments (1)The humidity in Singapore is always a concern with wardrobes and storage in general. The exhaust fan will help up to an extent. Its going to a trial and error experiment for you as there are other factors that need to be included here as well..... Eg is there a window for cross ventilation close by. Is there an air con in the bedroom concerned. Will it be switched on all the time or periodically. You might be lucky and control the humidity with a number of factors. Do share and let us know your experience so we can all learn from you. There is however a dehumidifying rod that is available in the market and used in high end homes in Singapore. It helps up to an extent as well. Its a question of best dealing with the natural humidity as well as the moistness from the shower....See MoreTani H-S
