Colour advice needed please

Hi all, we want some advice please. Would it look odd painting our weatherboard cottage pale grey with white trim on the exterior (Picture 1) but having the overall interior colour scheme in very pale blue and very pale brown with white trim? (Not the specific colours in Pictures 2 & 3, just that palette) Note: Roof will be dark colourbond

Prividing the internal and external window frame paint is the same white it should be OK. Nothing worse than looking through a glazed window and seeing a contrasting paint colour on the other side.

You are right on the money. This will look fresh and clean from both the inside and outside. The light grey colour is very calming and using pale colours will make the rooms appear larger. We use a lot of light and pale colours in our renovation projects that can give you an idea of how it will turn out. View them here.

Hi Alice, that's a really good question - challenging dilemma with a strong limitation (no hacking!) but I believe workable. Would you consider making changes to the backsplash? Adding some strip lighting will help too. Given the pink checkered floor tiles cannot be changed, I'd favour going for very neutral and clean looking cabinetry - to reduce visual clutter and bring in some harmony. Regardless of colour of finish choice, I prefer cabinetry that's not see-through. How about natural wood finishes: All-white with wood countertops might work as well: I leave it to the professionals to give their advice!

Well, open or close depend on your lifestyle. Do you like entertaining guests or whole family gathering around while you are cooking? If yes do an open kitchen with island. Bringing kichen, dining, living space together into one big room will make your home feel much bigger, airier,lighter. Or do you worry about privacy and the heat, smell? Try to search here open kitchen with island or in google images.

Thank you all. Very much appreciate the feedback. Good tip re the white trim colour, Dr Retro. And because we’re only using a blush of the blue and the honey colours, the alternative palettes shouldn’t be obvious. So helpful to be able to clarify those will I/won’t I conundrums. Don’t know what I’d do without Houzz and you all

Jan, I also agree with all of the above comments. Do you know what the colour is of the grey in the first picture? It is gorgeous.

Hi Audrey, it is gorgeous isn’t it? I haven’t yet had the time to track it down but a local painter has advised that if you go to a specialist paint shop with the photo, they should be able to colour match it, so that’s my plan for both the grey and that particular white

Can you post what you think they are once you have investigated it further. I won't be painting my house this year, but I have some sample pots here from Dulux that I haven't tested yet. Tranquil Retreat, Grey Pail, Terrace White. I think the Grey Pail will be bluer than that picture though. I tried Shale Grey (Colourbond Colour) but it was darker than I was wanting.

Indoor colour and out door colourings are in my mind two very different subjects. Choose the colours you love, colours that match your personality and colours that match your furniture. My personal passion would be the greys, whites and blue tones.

Colour matching from a picture can be very tricky. If you look at the left of the photo, you can see that the colour match will be different depending if they do it on a section that is in the light or the shade. Also, the printed photo is likely to look different from what it does on the computer screen. Sample pots rule!

I think you are playing too safe -- add some spot colour highlights IMO . The first picture ( the photo ) I would have the light shade and the cushions on the chair in a really bright red , and the door ( which appears open in the photo ) in a gloss black or charcoal . Alternatively , as the flowers are a mauve , I assume the owners like that as a colour , so do the light shade and cushion in a similar mauve or purple , and the door possibly the same colour ( you would really need to see the whole front of the house to see if that would look 'too much' .

Nice colours , a nice basis , BUT too underwhelming without a few highlights IMO .

When Picking a Colour you will find a very slight muted/dusty colour matches other colours better than very clean colours, the clean colours show the dirt more easily.

The grey on the outside is lovely. The white trimmings looks great, you could use a darker grey for seat covers with a flower spray on the back cushions, and Black/Charcoal door handles knockers & pots, etc.. with a splash of colour with a pretty flowering plant, ones that flower in the shade, match it up to the similar colour for the back cushions.

Pale blue on the interior, you need to check with your furnishings if they go better with Blue/Grey colourings or more the Lavender blue colouring or with a slightly Aqua Blue. all these are normal blues but you have to choose which blends best with everything you have.
