mixing mediterrian plants

I have a home in Egypt and I would like the front wall to have all white flowers that are quite high. the wall is roughly 2 meters high with holes through the wall. I think zone is 8 9. can I mix bougainvillea with yasmine .. hydrangea ...peonies ..white climbing roses all together??

When considering which plants to use on the wall, you need to think about aspect and soil conditions. Is the wall in the sun all day, or always shady. What sort of soil do you have? Heavy, moisture retentive like clay or free draining like sand. I'm not familiar with climate in Egypt other than it's hot, so you really need to choose the plants based on your conditions. As long as you have selected the plants based on these criteria they will all thrive together. Also think about flowering time or other interest, so that you don't end up with everything flowering together and then nothing for several months of the year. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your reply. Yes the soil is sand with irrigation/ sprinklers etc...I really like hydrangeas but done know if they 'll like the sand

Since you have white and black windows, fans, doors, gates, you need a light tan beige rather than an off white cream - off white will just look dirty next to the white. Something that goes warm neutral instead of yellow will work well. Tropical can mean lots of different things to different people - pick one accent color - a lagoon type green-blue-green with large leafy palms, and add a sail shade (triangle shaped) in the same tone to the upper deck.

I agree with the others - ask your neighbor about painting the side of the garage that faces your yard. Depending on your style of decor, you can treat this as a part of your yard and change the appearance completely. Consider a low fence to separate your yard from the street/driveway, something similar to the red fence shown, to provide you a smaller "room" for entertaining. I live in an area where the side of the neighbors house defines the property line and have decorated the side of the neighbors house with various items to break up the expanse of wall (old window frames with the glass missing, sections of old iron fences, bird houses, etc); it really helps to cozy up the space. A trench filled with gravel and topped with larger rocks will help with the water issue and direct the water to other areas of the yard. A brick or paver patio would be lovely for establishing a conversation/grill area. The pictures submitted by PC have some great ideas. I can't recommend plants since I have not idea what part of the country you are located in

It looks very sad. Do you keep it outside or inside? I would repot it with good quality potting mix in a larger pot that drains freely (don't reuse the soil that it's currently in). Water in with a seaweed solution/water mixture to reduce shock. Spray with white oil to treat the mites, do this once a week until they are gone. Before you spray cut off any affected leaves and dispose of them away from the plant. Make sure it's watered regularly and use a soil wetter. Position in morning sun outside. Once it perks up apply a citrus fertiliser as per the mftr instructions. Good luck!

I very much agree with what Beverly said regarding adding shutters to your home. You don't have the space on either side of the windows to accommodate appropriately sized shutters. Awnings would definitely be an option. Since you're in the Caribbean, you can add color by using a brightly striped awning. One shutter option that you could consider would be a Bahama Shutter. Since they mount at the top of the windows, you wouldn't have any problem adding them if you like.

I would advise you to look at what is growing well in neighbouring gardens, Bourganvillea, Jasmine and Roses should be very happy in that climate. Do improve your soil before planting if it is very sandy you need to add plenty of organic matter and compost. I wouldn't plant Hydrangea.
