what color should I paint the fieplace

Im looking to paint the fire place and maybe the wood shelf. Im not sure. I was thinking maybe a antique white on the brick. Looking for maybe a shabby chic to modern look. The floors have been laid and they are hardwood look with some distress look with blue and grey hues to it. Grey coul also be possible. This is a split level home and this is the basemet family area. Thanks for any advice.

Btw that sofa and furniture is grey. I like this look.

Go for it. White brick will be much fresher. I personally would go for a rustic mantel to coordinate with the floor tones.

The tile person should be able to demo and replace the tile. Most should know how to do drywall sufficiently enough to clean up their own mess. Most wallpaper people also patch walls and paint. There will be other things that need to be done, but between those two people they can lead you in the right direction. Just make sure to get this information before you start with a clear understanding of what those two are willing to do, and have it all planned out ahead of time. They may, for instance, be willing to remove a toilet to wallpaper behind it, but then have a plumber put it back.

Hi Rachel, This is quite easy to fix. Firstly I would brighten the space up with a white paint such as Nippon Violet Whispers (warm white), this will give you a good base to work from. Then I would replace your table with one that is larger. This table is too small to be useful and is making your entrance feel small. I recommend using teak and keeping this console table simple in design. On the wall I would place artwork - the bigger the better as this will make a dramatic statement. Then add some lighting (table lamp on console table) and decorative items and voila your entrance will be instantly chic! I have mocked up two options for you - one is based on blues, the other pinks, so depending on your preference you can go either way. Depending on what is the rest of the house, a white or light gray brick with a black mantle could be more dramatic.

I'd do whitewash on the bricks - not white paint, but proper lime-based whitewash. Normally I'm not a fan of painting/whitewashing bricks, but in this case, the pattern isn't so great and and most of them are already white anyway. And then I'd keep the mantle as wood, but consider staining it a darker and less red shade.
