Need help creating an industrial feel that's still cozy
Comments (4)I would get rid of that pendant. Here's one link to industrial pendant lights http://www.houzz.com/industrial-pendants Pick a light that you like and show it to your landlord. I bet she/he will say yes to your suggestion since pendant lights can easily be changed. In fact, if there's already a really secure junction box there already i bet they may even go with a ceiling fan light combo if that's what you really want...See MoreWhat kind of painting to put behind my chesterfield sofa?
Comments (3)I'm not sure if there are any hard and fast rules but I think it needs to be probably at least half the width of the sofa to look good. In your case I would probably go for something 65-75% of the width of the sofa with maybe the height around 55-70% of the length. You could also try a large portrait style, the best thing to do is to cut out a template and hang it on the wall to see what you like as chesterfields are normally quite low. I'd also move the sofa slightly but are the ceiling lights positioned over the sofa? Hard to tell from the camera angle. I also thought of the Vintage film pics but maybe not original. My basement has a slight film theme with lighting ( actually I have a Chesterfield and cowhide too!) and I have large black and white pics of movie stars but not from film clips ie the iconic Michael Caine shot taken by David Bailey. I also love vintage travel posters, I know they've been around for quite a while now but you could find a destination that means something to you. Or look at industriał style art with a pop of colour. Or an abstract with pops of colour....See MoreWhat should I do with this boring entrance?
Comments (9)Hi Rachel, This is quite easy to fix. Firstly I would brighten the space up with a white paint such as Nippon Violet Whispers (warm white), this will give you a good base to work from. Then I would replace your table with one that is larger. This table is too small to be useful and is making your entrance feel small. I recommend using teak and keeping this console table simple in design. On the wall I would place artwork - the bigger the better as this will make a dramatic statement. Then add some lighting (table lamp on console table) and decorative items and voila your entrance will be instantly chic! I have mocked up two options for you - one is based on blues, the other pinks, so depending on your preference you can go either way. This is the blue version with hints of tropical This is the pink version. I would love to work with you, so if you are interested in my ideas, please contact me via my website www.atelierlane.com Ellie Owner & Creative Director Atelier Lane...See MoreNeed help for guest/study room
Comments (2)Hi 4eva zx, If you're only occasionally using the guest/study room as a place for a guest to sleep, then you should prioritise being able to use it as your home office. That said, you'd be better off having a more comfortable and convenient desk, rather than one where you'd have to climb up and down a platform, and possibly roll off it if you're using an ergonomic chair. A short-term guest would be well-served by a single-sized sofa bed, which you can also enjoy as a reading lounge when there is no guest. The broken lines indicate the sofa bed when unfolded – not ideal as it would block access to the wardrobe, but it shouldn't be an issue for occasional use. The best use of this room would be for you to enjoy it as much as possible. You could even install some overhead bookshelves in the corner above where you planned to put the desktop. Alternatively, you might even want to try a convertible desk-bed such as this: Hope this helps!...See MoreLuke Buckle
