How did you build the decking to make sure it doesn’t shift. We live in IA with frost and cold winters

We used traditional concrete footers, set 30-32" below grade. No short-cuts.

Artificial turf! The green (they come in different colours, too, if you'd like to be psychedelic) adds a lively pop of colour to a blah space, and they're designed in easy-to-install tile-style units that have some built-in drainage for minimal maintenance. Absolut Outdoors and Green Turf can tell you more :) And I'd hang an outdoor art piece or a screen for air plants on that blank wall, too, to enliven your balcony.

Hi Angry Singaporean, We feel for you and share the same sentiments. In the name of 'progress' we see many old buildings and and also many green/forested areas being torn down and cleared for new much need housing and office space. Its easy for us to blame the govt board to be insensitive to our heritage areas and conservation of old buildings especially when architecture like this has been gazetted as a conservation structure. Lets hope that URA will not tear down this building but try and maintain a fine balance and keep the facade of the building at least and build whatever required monstrocity they want behind it. By incorporating our past and future perhaps we can maintain that fine balance. Whilst, i see the reason for URA to re purpose this area for the North South tunnel works, on a personal note, i dont see why we need more commercial buildings in the area as there are so many empty spaces at the moment along the whole stretch of Selegie Road. It would be a shame to erect yet another building at sky rocket prices and pass costs on to tenants. I am a die hard fan of "mum and pop" shops. I frequent them even if i dont have anything at all to buy and always buy something. The nostalgia of these establishments remind us of who we are and where we belong. Otherwise its all the same tenants all over the city from Orchard to Woodlands. Perhaps URA could investigate on new building and architectural technology to conserve the building facade somehow. One can dream.

This is the back house of a 2-on-a-lot project next door. The developer is known for taking liberties, and in this case, it's not clear that he built what he said he would build. I am wondering about two things: Does this look like a house, or a side-by-side duplex? How about the square footage? The lot is 100 feet wide, so this seems to be 80 ft wide, based on the satellite photo. But how deep it is, from front to back, based on the limited information in the photos? How many square feet do you think it is?
