Roman blinds to start from ceiling or from top of window?

I intend to install blackout Roman blinds for the windows in this room. The windows do not have a trim around it. Should the roman blinds start from the top of the window or from the ceiling to give the illusion that the windows are taller?

Starting from the top definitely makes it look taller and grand if cost is not a concern. Having the blinds all the way up will be good if u install a pelmet to cut down the light coming from the top of the window. Alternatively, u can start abt 4-6inches above so that u have abt a panel of the blinds above the window. Discuss with the supplier about extending the width abt 4 inches beyond the right of the window too to minimise light coming from the gap between window and blinds. Do note that since u don’t have space to the left of the window, u will still not achieve total blackout as light can stream in from all sides, especially the left. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks so much for the tip! I would like to do a half wall paint for this room. Wondering if I should paint the window and staircase walls half wall too? Or just one feature wall as a half wall paint.

I have to say that well made Roman Shades are not cheap, they are the higher end of the market. Secondly the thing to consider is that they are an all or nothing product, they are either open or closed. What part of the country do you live in? What direction do the windows face, and how often are those doors used? Drapery that can not be moved completely out of the way will get caught in the doors all the time, so while I hate taking out a window for any reason, removing it might make sense as it seems rather redundant. Don't do any type of venetian if this door is used a lot, and if you do, make sure you do an outside mount, allowing for the stack to go above the frame of the doors when they are open. I suggest that you look into Hunter Douglas Polysatin Shutters, they are great on french doors, and the Hunter Douglas Duette Architella Vertiglide is perfect on doors, they also come as a duo light, meaning you can put two blinds into one product - so a sheer and an opaque or semi-opaque product. Just some thoughts to consider.

IN my case the curtains are less about Privacy, but more about making the room visually higher & covering windows that are not too attractive. (note 1: the landlord's curtains in the picture have been removed)

I would use a white canvas roman shade on the window with an outside mount and mount it exactly the same height as the top of the fabric of the shower curtain. Use the same fabric on the shower curtain and do contrasting banding along the bottom of the roman shade and across the middle of the shower curtain at the same height. You can add other colors of banding from that height down to the bottom of the curtain. You can buy sunbrella acrylic fabric in extra wide panels so you don't have seams on the shower curtain. I did one in a cabin that looked like an indian trading blanket. It was fabulous.

It will have the same effect as the blinds you have now, only prettier. Maybe you can have the middle part as one larger blind? Or does that one have an angle too? If you look at the photo I posted that's called 'Kitchens', the blinds are almost touching each other. I think that will work for your window. If you can have something like that made....

There r many “layers” due to the loft and the dropped ceiling, and the stairs is the solid concrete type. Painting 2 tones would add to the complexity of the look, which in my opinion, would be quite overwhelming. Instead of traditional 2-tone painting style, try painting shapes on the wall instead (color block accent wall).
